Took mine off today in advance of the Pilot Rock run in SoCal tomorrow. 2000 Limited and I was hesitant to take off at first as I thought it might look odd with the door moldings. I have no concerns now that I see them off. 
Six 13mm bolts to undo on each side. 5 minutes each side. SoCal T4R, so no rust!

ok so i love the look of them off but i am worried about killing the paint on the lower area. I do not wheel but i will take it off road but after 245k on mmy truck it still looks brand new on the lower doors . So my question is for everyone who has them off how is it wearing your lower paint??

After I took this picture I put on inexpensive mud flaps...we've had mostly rainy days since and there's been little to no splashing on the paint. (FWIW I live on a gravel road, and the city is FULL of potholes...deep ones!). If I was a mudder, well...
Aesthetically, a toss-up. Guess I like it both ways:whip2: I was tired of dragging a leg across the boards.

So this is what mine will look like as our trucks are identical. After looking through this entire thread I have come to one conclusion . IMO they DO look cooler withOUT the running boards with one exception ( and mine fits in this exception ) , if its Limited , it would look much better with the lower plastic moulding that runs between the front and back flares , removed . The SR5's without that moulding and no RB's look killer . Just my 2 cents :tongue:

I agree. The bottom molding makes it look funny.
Alaskaflyer's Ltd. looks sick but his molding is roughly the same color as the body.

Well I never really paid detailed attention to that lower door moulding . DOH !! I was surprised just now as I was crawling out from under my truck that the moulding on the rear door is part of the wheel flare :wtf:
No wonder no one with the LTD's removes those pieces . I need to pay more attention to the body than the mechanics :lmao:

My 2001 SR5 Sport Edition... I removed the running boards the first week after I picked it up.

I've got a 2000 Highlander with no running boards. It doesn't look bad now that I've got the 265/75 AT's on it, but when I was running stock 265/70's that came on it I didn't think it look good, so I put the running boards back on.
Now that I've got the bigger tire I had to take 'em off because they were rubbing pretty bad.
I think yours definitely looks better with 'em on.
