Stock OEM 4Runner rim offset / backspacing

Okay, so I've always wondered what the true backspacing was on our 3rd Gen 4Runner wheels (16" alloy). I've first heard it was 4.5, then 4.375, then more recently, 4.75. I just bought some 5-star rims, so I thought I'd find out for myself.

First, I laid it flat, facing up:

Hard to get a good picture that way. So, I laid it on it's top, and laid a straight stick across the top. I got better pics that way.

Seems the backspacing is 4 5/8 (4.625"). Hope this puts some of the confusion to rest.

Yep. I knew I was close with the 4.75". I didn't think to put something flat across the back of the wheel so I was ballparking it. Thanks, even though there will probably be another big debate in 3 months. :bigok:

Hmm. Thats odd. I remember measuring a 3 5/8 offset on the "blooming flower" wheels. What your measurement makes it even more odd is that I bought some Mickey Thompson Classic II with the 4 7/16 back spacing and they caused my tires to rub on turns. Despite the tires being the Terra Grapplers 265/75/16, on my stock wheels, they only rub at full turn and compression. Theoretically an 8" wide wheel should make the tire less balloon than a 7".
Now I am stuck with ugly factory rims and the Mickey's in a box after 2 weeks of use. I wish I had the cash to lift right now..

First, you must remember incorrectly because all of the 4Runner wheels should have about the same backspacing. P nut and I both measured about the same thing using two different style 4Runner wheels. Also, you are looking at this the wrong way. Either your Mickeys are not a backspacing of 4 7/16" or its the 8" wheel that is rubbing, neither of which make much sense. I had wheels on my 4Runner that have a backspacing of about 5" and with a 265 series tire I still didn't experience any rubbing.

Ok. Well, the Mickey's I have only come in the maximum 4 7/16 backspacing for out bolt pattern in 16x8 wheel. I had to use this spacing since the smaller one rubbed on my brakes. Even the Mickey Thompson guide specifies this wheel.
Second I have the 75 series tires.
Could the suspension be setup different if my door sticker states that my 4Runner came with the 15" wheels? I have an 02 SR5 by the way. Thanks anyways.

You are right I remembered wrong. I screwed the measurements. I have the 3 5/8 BS wheels and the 4 7/16BS wheels are closer to oem wheels but rub on the calipers. Should have went for the ProComps as they have a 4 BS and probably wouldn't cause any issues. Sorry for the mix up.

I have a question though I've been looking at throwing some aftermarket wheels on my 02 4runner. It currently has BFG 265/75r16s on it. I was looking at these two types of wheels but I'm confused with offset and everything else. Would either of this wheels work?
