stock radio/cd, totally dark??

Hi guys, I have the 2000 LTD, with the factory radio cd player, it works great, but theres not a light on it that works, going to work in the morning and its pitch black,cant see a thing, I took it apart, hoping theres a bulb that I could replace, but they look like very small square lights that are behind each button,,almost as though they are inserted right into the circuit board, so my next thought is maybe there is a fuse thats blown in the unit, but cant find one, has anybody had this problem and able to solve it,, It works great, but would like it to light up,,,,if anyone can help, that would be great,,,thanks,,,,Jossef,,,,,

Probably only a bad connection somewhere like maybe the main square connector on the back. Might also be a connection to an amplifier behind it. Plug it all back in and see if it works. The wiring diagram shows two separate circuits for lights in the unit so if it's a bulb it wouldn't be the entire unit going black.

Don't assume the problem is in the unit.

thanks for your help, there are 2 female recieving connectors on the back of the unit, but there is only one male connector to go with it, I cant find any other male connector, so I am wondering if the previous owner did some mods, before I bought it, anyways, ill keep trying,,,thanks again,,,by any chance on your diagram, would it tell what colour wires were responsible for the lighting??, thanks,,,

I have the same thing happening with me. But it goes in and out. Not sure whats wrong

I used the wiring diagram on the internet

It looks like the white/green wire is the voltage to the lights. Put a volt meter on it and it should go up and down to the dash brightness control. Might also be a bad ground which I think is the green wire. Check continuity to ground.

if its not the wiring it could be that it has little cluster bulbs in it that are all burnt out. Thats what happened to my old radio on the lcd portion, found out it was a bad little cluster bulb. not sure in your case, but I had to take apart the radio front plate to find out.
