Stock Radio question with pics

What are each of these outputs? Can someone tell me which each one is used for.

i guess pre-99 came with a single DIN radio?

not sure about the black one of the left, but the white plug is the main plug, gives you power, ground, acc, dimmer plus all the speaker wires...the two on the right are for the antennas
 
I believe the one on the left is for an optional CD changer (can also be used for iPod adaptors, etc)
 
Regarding the original posting i am pretty sure from right to left it is the cd changer, main input, and then the two inputs like was said before.

But my 98 has a double-din headunt too so it must be like no cassette or no single cd player or something

Well, for '99, the Owner's Manual shows four units: Types 1&2 are almost identical single-DIN cassette only AM/FM and CD changer controller. Type 3 is Single DIN CD/AM/FM/ and CD changer controller. Type 4 was double-DIN with both cassette & single CD AM/FM and CD changer controller. I believe pictured unit could be either 1,2, or 3, meaning cassette or single CD but not both in single-DIN box. Mine was cassette only and there was no changer from the factory (bare-bones sound for the SR5).

OP better hope you are wrong, because the premium HU is useless without the matching power amp. I know the car harness plug is different from the amp input plug, because lots of people have tried plugging aftermarket adapters into the factory amp and been frustrated. The white jack on the OP's photo looks the same as the output jack on the power amp, and both should mate to the car harness. Your point about the heat sinks is noted, but the integrated amps were pretty anemic and the sinks could be inside.

I think if you saw the output jack on the e-bay HU without the input plug to the amp in it, it would be different from the one on the OP's HU. But I am willing to say I am not 100% sure, here, by any means, because I have never touched a premium factory setup and it's been ten years since I saw my factory HU.
 
got a '99 limited with the type 4 double din unit, looking for a sweet hu now, never found and amp in my truck yet...so don't know if there is one, not under seats anywhere i could see with a quick visual inspection. could be wrong not that thorough

No offense here but I have no idea what you are saying with this post. It is one of the most confusing posts I've ever read, and I actually fully understand the way the factory 4Runner system is set up. I'm not sure what you are getting at, or why the OP should be worried.

The amp is mounted in the dash, behind the factory head unit. There is a one plug harness that plugs into the white plug on the back of the head unit in the picture above. That harness leads to the amp, and on the other side of the amp there is a 2-plug harness that plugs into the amp. Your wiring harness for an aftermarket stereo goes from the 2 plug harness to the aftermarket radio harness, bypassing the factory amp.

i think durk was saying with the premium stock unit wont work with out the power amp so he should make sure the stock power amp is installed on his 4runner, i'm gathering that the double din unit or the premuim unit only came with this amp.(stock config) correct?

(not a statement a question if i understood the post or not and if in-fact that is the way it works) 10 points 2 parts.:trophy: lol

Not a problem.. The only reason I know what I know is from doing the install on my own vehicle. I'm willing to be that all of the 4runner head units use the factory amp. I could be incorrect, as I only have experience with the system that I have, but the plug on the back of the single din radio pictured by the OP is exactly the same as the one on my stock double din "premium" unit. For one to not use the amp would mean Toyota would have had to installed 2 different wiring harnesses in the 4Runner and that just doesn't really make good business sense. We have probably all overwhelmed the OP with information he really wasn't looking for, but hopefully some of it helped.
 
Sorry if I confused anyone. I looked at both pictures for a while before I wrote it and you would probably have to do the same to see what I was saying. The base units did NOT have a separate power amp--at least the type installed in my car. The car harness plugged into the HU not the separate power amp which was not installed. No difference in the wiring harness, just where it plugged in.

Lizzard King understood what I was saying--if it is the premium unit, the power amp better be somewhere.

My base tape player with integrated amp did just fine on its own when I gave it to a family member to use in a car with only a radio. I had to buy a 'theft' pigtail from the dealer to wire it up--it wasn't easy. So I know the power amp was not left behind in my dash.
