I just installed a Pioneer AVH-1300nex in my Tacoma, to replace an old alpine and I’m really impressed!

Now I want to replace to piece of crap factory unit in the Rrunner. From my experience, replacing just the head unit makes the whole system sound a lot better. So instead of just installing an amp, you might want to start with the HU.

That's what I like about this amp, is that it's not just an amp. First impressions are great for my taste, so we'll see how it settles in for me.

The amp is the Kicker Key180.4. The harnesses were purchased through Amazon because Crutchfield didn't have both of them. They are Metra brand part # 70-1761 and 71-1761. I took pics of the harnesses because I had to make a slight modification to accommodate one wire (dim wire, according to Crutchfield). Fortunately, there were antenna motor wires not being used, so I pulled them and moved them to the other pins, where needed. No pics of the actual install though. Too hot here in SoCal, so I didn't want to spend any more time in the car than I had to! Pics of the harnesses to follow soon...

Was there room for that amp behind the factory head unit? Or did you mount it elsewhere? ...any issues with heat from the amplifier?

Can you notice a significant difference with the eq/dsp/key switch (whatever they're calling it) activated vs deactivated?

I mounted it elsewhere for now, as I think it would have been tight, if it fit at all. It gets fairly hot, but didn't seem too bad. There was a noticeable difference, both in EQ and the staging. I didn't feel like it was a radical difference, which was good. The low end from the stock unit has always been boomy to me, and the mid-hi's were harsh and fatiguing. I think the DSP fixed that, at least for my taste.

I’m trying it under the center console, but watching the temp. So far it seems fine when it’s not over 100 degrees out. I may move it.

This is the amp I plan on running. I want to trying doing an 8" woofer in the door and a 3.5" full range speaker in the dash location then running the amp in active mode. No one is able to tell me if the amp has that type of ability though. Not sure if I feel like doing that much test and trying. the safe route will be 6x9 JBL components run active, new rear door speakers and an Alpine PWE-S8 under the passenger seat.

best decision i made was to junk my factory entune setup. it works for some, but after making the jump to an aftermarket HU with all the features that come with them. I am more then happy i did. running andriod auto or apple car play (i use andriod) was a huge feature for me that i didnt expect to be that big of a deal.

I am running it to a rockford amp mounted in the center console powering 2 focal ps165fx up front, and ps165f's in the rear using sound skins on all 4 doors... still have to build my sub box and get that part finished.

i know i would have been happy if i went the same route as you did and others have, i was actually looking at the JL twk and Fx or the audison bit 10. but im extremely happy with the route i decided to go......although my wallet is not so much thrilled......LOL
