Well, I bit the bullet and painted my rims. I went with Duplicolor flat black. I really think they turned out well. I'm putting them back on the Runner tomorrow (unless my lift comes). I'll post more pics once they're on. Here's shots from tonight:

Primed (3 coats):

Painted (4 Coats):

All 4 un-taped and ready to go back on:

And.....ON!!!

Can't wait to get the lift on and get some bigger tires. I'd love to rhino-line the bumpers, but I haven't looked into it yet.

What size tires do you have on there now? 225s?

225's...unfortunately!:(

I'm right there with you. I've got the 225/75/15's too. :( Not fun. What size are you thinking about upgrading too? I imagine you'll stick with the same rims seeing as you just spent all that time painting them! When I get new tires I'm keeping the same rims but I can't decide what size tires to go with. I want 265's but then if I get a 2"-3" lift I don't them to look small. Decisions, decisions. What size lift do you want?

Let us know what you decide on and be sure to post pics! :bigok:

I already bought a Daystar 2.5 inch spacer lift. It should be here any day. I haven't decided which tires to put on yet. I'm hoping to stumble across some BFG AT's on Craigslist for cheap. I think with the 15's I can probably get away with some 31's or 32's max and it will still look pretty tough.

Yeah I'm looking at the Daystar 2.5" or the Toytec 2.5/3". Be sure to post up pics once you get the lift installed. Do you think you'll install it before you get bigger tires? I'd like to see how a 2.5" looks when sitting on the 225s.

I'm looking at the BFG AT's in a 31" too, or the Toyo Open Country ATs in 265.

I'll def. install it before I get bigger tires. I'm looking to put it on tomorrow or the day after depending on when it finally gets here (been waiting a month)! I'm out of money for tires right now. I'll just deal with the way it looks until I can't take it anymore.

Looks sweet!!

Should have waited for the bigger tires to paint them though. Going to need to do it again when you put them on, no?

No he's keeping the same 15" rims, just upgrading the size of his tires. Shouldn't need to repaint them as far as I know.

Behind his current wheel weights is the original color, the new wheel weights will be a different color, and the possibility of getting scratches using the tire machine.

how long did that take?

About 5 hrs from when I started taking the tires off to finish painting last coat. I let them sit over night and put them back on today. I could have put them on last night, but figured I'd wait.

The good thing about that paint is it's really easy to touch up spots. If there are scratches in the paint and what not, its really no big deal to touch it up leaving the wheels on the truck.

2 cans Duplicolor self-etch primer - $10
2 cans Duplicolor Flat Black - $12
1 roll painters tape - $2
That's it!

Those prices are approximately what I remember, but I know they are extremely close to what I paid.
