stock suspension (which side)

I have a 2016 Trail Edition with KDSS. I decided i'm going back to my stock suspension and I'm curious about the color codes painted on the shocks and coils. I believe my 2001 had a "left" color and a "right" color but its been so long I can't remember. I'm looking at my 2016 parts and they're all painted with the same colors. The rear shock aren't marked. Does it matter? Seems strange since KDSS tends to have a lean.

PS. Local shop wants $750 to change it back. That's crazy!!!

Thanks,

I have the same truck and will try to look at my set up tomorrow for comparison. Why are you going back to stock? What are you currently running?

Satstrail- Thank you- I literally just installed a Dobinsons suspension with Camburg UCAs. The lift probably has 30 miles on it. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with it it just isn't me. This is gonna be an expensive lesson learned but again it just isn't me.

As someone also with a 16 with KDSS looking into different options, what about the Dobinsons didn't you find to your taste? I know they have a couple of options, and something that was drawing me to them was the 'comfort' setup they had. Which set up did you go with?

I don't want people to think my switching back to stock had anything to do with Dobinsons. It truly doesn't. The support and service I received from Mike at Dobinsons was first rate and the quality of their product (30 miles worth) seems superior. I'm sure people will call me ignorant, or I should've done more research, etc etc...but after I installed the lift I didn't like the height and center of gravity. This is the package I got;

C59-314 x 1
GS59-574 x 2
DD59-527K x 1
C59-725 with KDSS x 1
GS59-701 x 2

How was the ride quality compared to stock? The stock setup with KDSS is a bit harsh for my liking and I'm trying to find whatever setup provides the most dampening, and the Dobinsons are the only ones I've seen actually mention a 'comfort' (C59-448) setup.

I'd say the ride quality was night and day. The wife hated the look and height but loved the ride quality. I have the same tires as you so here's what the 3" lift will look like.

so I'm guessing it doesn't matter what side the shocks/coils go on....universal?

EDIT- this is what i've found;
"White and orange is on your passenger side, and white and green is on the drivers" ...the problem is both coils are white and orange.

How much lift did the rear coils give you? I'm looking at pretty much that same set-up in the rear and hoping for about 2"

I believe the side that has more compressed coils goes on the driver side to account for the lean. You can see in your picture that the one on the right is more tightly bound.

What do you mean by the latter? Was it just in everyday road driving or specific to off-road?

Having a TE with KDSS, I'm trying to start researching lifts and whether I actually want to modify the suspension.

I haven't taken it off road. Its hard to explain...I have a 2001 4runner that was 12 years old and had 100k plus mileage on it when i did a 3" suspension and 1" body (toytec) lift. I liked that lift and felt comfortable with it.

This truck is a 2016 with 7k miles on it. I don't feel comfortable in it now that i changed the factory dynamics on it so soon.

If I could hit the reset button I'd just do a leveling kit.

Not sure that makes sense...

I didn't notice that. I'll have to take a closer look. thanks for your observation!

I just got around to checking my truck for you.

Both fronts- white and orange
Both rears- pink and orange

Same as yours. I see no difference between the sides. For what it's worth KDSS equipped runners lean naturally to the passenger side not the drivers side like non KDSS trucks.

Yeah just checked my 2013 TE and both front are Orange and White. Couldn’t tell anything that would have one side standout over the other.
