Stock Tires

Does anyone know how long the stock tires last? I want something a bit better for winter but cant justify changing tires if they still have tread left.

I'm almost at 40k and there is still enough trend for one more winter (hopefully). As long as we don't get deep snow, I'll keep them for another season.

Well, I mean I put on 90,000km which is like 56,000miles. I was just wondering when was the average of wearing out these tires....

Reason why I ask is because last winter I wasnt too impressed with the tires. Couldnt get through deep snow. And I would like to.

If you want to go through deep snow, and you're from Toronto so I'm sure you don't have a choice you should definitely swap them out with that mileage on them. I have less miles and I know I don't trust them to take me through the deep stuff.

Stock tires are either Dunlops or Bridgestones - which ones? I suspect you'd get 10-15k more out of the Bridgestones over the Dunlops but at 56k miles either woudl be good only in Florida surely not a Canadian winter (unless you firmly believe Al Gore's rants). I'd get new ones before the snow and ice hit! In US, $100 off 4 tires and free shipping at Discount Tire til 20 Oct.

Well, Im sure for city driving its okay. its just that sometimes when I go up to the cottage country I get stopped in my tracks on unmaintained roads. I want to be able to plow through them...without the need of a "snow plow" ;)

40K on the Dunlops here in CA... they still gripped pretty well but were close enough to the end of their lives that I decided to replace them before winter.

I have the michelins and I have about 5mm left in the thread. Should I wear them for another year?

I wouldnt, thats not much at all for snow. Why not invest in some cheap wheels for winter use and save your originals for summer, etc. This way you dont have to keep mounting/dismounting tires.

I was thinking of just getting Revos and using them all year round. I just dont know when I should replace them. I wont be changing them back and forth....
