I did that to my tacoma, and my friends ford. Its pretty easy, no different than painting anything else. I just took off the tire/wheel, sanded down the wheels, taped off the tire, and went to painting. Make sure you use primer first, and then your color, and then i use a clear coat. Just a tip, you first 1-2 coats of primer and color should be light coats.

plastidip. super easy prep, can do it on-vehicle and it's held up to direct pressure washing for me...and I only used 1.5 cans of the stuff.

same exact story for me lol. And I didn't care about the outside wheel weights either. Also haven't had normal PC access lol.

Wow, Thanks. That does look pretty sick. I've heard of plastidip but what advantages, other than being able to take it off, are there?

My ex plasti-dipped his rims, bumper, decals, and grill on his Tundra. Looked really nice, was easy, and it's only about 20-30 minutes drying time between coats. Plus, you can pick it up at almost every Home Depot-type store, and it comes in a ton of colors.
I'm probably going to end up doing mine, most likely black. (Pretty sure it comes in hot pink...oh, the possibilities! Lol!)

very little prep. no scuffing, just wipe clean. no taping off in all honesty. I did, but you don't need to. don't need to remove from the truck and it dries quickly if you do thin coats. It actually started raining just as I finished the last wheel.
fine it's not that hard to post... here's mine. still looks that good today.

We did my buddies 5 years ago, turned out really sharp:
First we sandblasted them bare, then painted. they were quite corroded and came out looking new.

They're 33x10.5s. I originally was going to have them powder coated black, but at $40/wheel I want positive I wanted to do it. I decided to try the Plastidip, and now can't justify having them coated.

I finally got around to getting them plastidipped. They turned out great. I went ahead and took off my tires just because they also needed rotated. I put between 5 and 7 layers on. I just hope it stands up to the gravel roads that I live on and drive on all day.

Mine are Plastidip. I've been really pleased with it. It's held up great. 15k miles since done, and a bunch of off road miles. The places that have needed touch up from damage would have needed it on powder coat or paint too.
they do look great.
i did these, and i'm super happy with them

While not posing much of a detriment to 4x4 scenes, you also have to consider weight. I am not sure how much plastidip weighs, as I have never used the stuff, so I am not even sure if this is a valid statement to this scenario, but consider the gyroscopical rotational forces altered with turning a heavier wheel. In race cars, shaving 4 pounds per wheel (now dont shoot me here, my math is horrible and I ran out of fingers and toes to count on) is the equivalent of gaining 50-80 horsepower. But, I cant see plastidip weighing that much, thus not making that much of a difference, but, just food for thought! :flamethrwoer2:
