When I had my fronts done they used a laser labs tint meter and said the rears were 24's .

I just had my fronts done not too long ago, and they told me on my 2011 TE the rears were 19, so The front two went to 15 and the strip on the front went to 5

I am getting mine done this weekend and I wanted it to be even all around. My tint really doesnt seem like it is anywhere near that dark though. I thought 35 all around would be ok. (35 is the darkest I can get mine in IL)

keep in mind that in IL if you have your rears darker than a certain %%, you can't have the front tinted..

I don't remember the exact numbers at the moment, though :\

If i had to guess i'd say the rears are about 20%. I know they aren't as light as 35, and 5% is wayyyy darker. 20% is what i'd guess. Sometimes those light meters aren't very accurate which might be why we had a few different numbers above. I had a cop one time tell me my 5% was like 25%, so it just goes to show if those meters aren't configured right, or if the test is done incorrectly.

I've got 5% on top of the factory rear tint. It makes it like 0%. It's pretty awesome. Although a bit dangerous when backing up at night time.

Looks like if the rears are darker than 30 then you cant tint the front. I swear mine arent that dark. At some angles it barely looks tinted.

exactly. Or if there is sunlight coming through the opposite side.

Any tint shop will have a tint meter to check them for you. The law here in Texas is 25 for the front side windows . A couple of years ago they had a crack down,mainly on legit tint shops with big ,big fines. So you have to do it yourself or go the shadier latin side of town to get illegal darker tints. No pun intended!

I just went legit and got Huper Optik 30's for my side and I'm more then happy with them. That's what matters. I had 5% Limo tint put on a white Porsche I used to own and it was a pain to see out driving at night. But the black on white looked amazing! Never got pulled over but times are different these days and cops look for stuff like that now.

yep, I agree, and 30 sounds about right.
I will be getting my tint done this week, hopefully, i'll have this checked and report back.

I got my fronts tinted 20% to match the rear and it is perfect to me.

I went with 15% on the front two and the rear is 19% but that isn't a big enough varriation to tell with out really starring at it. With the 4runner being what it is, they usually don't look for window tint here in GA atleast. 32% is the legal max tint but roll em down when you see the FIVE-O. Plus, they tend to get me for my excessively heavy right foot.
