Hey guys so last week I had my catalytic converter chopped off my '88 4runner while i was at work. I live in the border town of El Paso and that stuff used to only happen in Juarez Mexico. My question is has anyone had this happen to them and what can i do to prevent this from happening again?

Thats impressive. Thats never happened to me, but if it did, I think that I would get a vibration sensitive alarm system. You know something that was quick and ungraceful. Maybe a noisy alarm would be a good deterant.

Happened to me while I was in class on day. Came out and started up and BRUUUUUMMM. Fawwwwk. Haha. Nothing you really can do besides get a fancy pants alarm. I just pout another one on and it hasent happen again since.

Skumbags.

apparently, this is a common thing. i came on here to ask about what i should do to stop this. someone is in the process of cutting off my catalytic converter right now. my neighbor saw someone underneath my truck the other morning and they drove off when they saw my neighbor.

i check under my truck today and noticed one side of the pipe is cutoff already. i'm afraid there's not much i can do to stop them since i have to street park it. i don't want to put a fancy alarm on it since the car was basically a gift and not my everyday driver. anyone have suggestions on what i should do?

By the way, how much would it be to get something like that repaired? to get the one side welded back on?

jeez if that happened to me more than once I'd just ditch the cat. We don't have emission testing here though.

Yeah, here in Montana there is no vehicle inspection or testing by the state. I know a few folks around here who have somehow "lost" the Cat, or had it "Stolen".... many consider it a bonus!!
I, however would never even Consider femoving my cat from my vehicles, in violation of FEDERAL LAWS! Gasp!!:naughty:

my ex's brother got the cat chopped off his taco a couple months ago. I was shocked, it seem unusual, but i guess its pretty common..

Happened to me a couple months ago I was shocked someone would steel my cat.. figure someone needed it for their car since you cant pick it up at the junk yard.. come to find out theres alot of valuble metal in there.. I was working on my starter and looked up when I was underneith the truck and thought to my self whats missing lol .. than said woooooooowwwwww someone got me for my cat.. shocked, surprised, stunned, like damn.. but I like the insurance idea Bad Vision talked about.. ive seen 3 different types of cat locks and catchers online but there almost the same price as an alarm.. just pick up an alarm.. the new cats they make to replace the old ones dont have all the valuble metals in them like the stock ones so I doubt they would steel it after you have already replaced it.. I got mine for $67 beats paying $130 at the local auto parts store..

Wow!!!

This was a real eye-opener for me. I park my vehicles in a garage in either Florida or Mass. At first I was amused by the posts, but that certainly can ruin your day if you lived in Ma. Why not start sleeping in your vehicle and arm yourself with a shotgun? Then you can make a citizens arrest or even better shoot the prick.
