Hi All,

Does anyone here now how to get replacement keys for a 4 Runner Surf? It belongs to my mate here in the UK ( he doesn't have internet access ) and he was burgled the other day. They took the keys but not the vehicle.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You can try Keylessride.com. They will require proof of ownership and VIN, if you need keys cut.

Good find...however, them knowing your proof of ownership will have your address, so that means Keyless Ride can steal your vehicle if they wanted.

Youll need to order from the dealer most likely, and they are about $225 plus any programming fee.

Toyota Key

I lost one of my keys & transmitter one time. I went on Ebay to get the transponder for $30. And had The Dealer order, cut & program my key AND remote. I had them reset the codes on both remotes, because if my lost key/trasmitter was found, my keyless entry will not beep and they cannot get into my truck. HOWEVER...if they turn the key manual, then they can get in.

Andy D,

Go on ebay & find yourself a trasmitter. Be sure the seller has an excellent feedback & be sure the FCC ID on the back of the transmitter matches yours.

What year is it? Does it have the key with the transponder chip in it, or is it just a regular type key?

And that's any different than the dealer servicing your 4Runner?!?! If spending 2-3x's more is a piece of mind, then by all means let the stealership take care of it.

If they're going to take it, they're are going to come get it with a tow truck. And if they can't, what are you going to do when there's a gun pointed in your face?

Please, it's a 4Runner, not a limited production highly sought after exotic.

Shoot them

KeylessRide has offices in the US and Phillipines, very likely they're going to fly out to the UK and take the OP's 4R.

Keys merely keep honest people honest, not the determined. They could get the VIN off the dash for any 4R. You have the dash covered? Well then, you better scratch the one off the frame rails too.

Unnecessary paranoia. :redbrick:

Oh wells, either way, information is out there, the ultimate decision is with the OP.
