Stolen stubby antenna!

Yesterday morning.. I put my daughter in the baby seat and then proceeded to the drivers seat. Then I spotted that my mangowalk was gone! Some low life snatched it! right out of my driveway in a decent neighborhood! Its an inexpensive part but its sooo aggravating.. Ill probably just leave the stock one on.. I don't think theres a way to secure them besides crazy glue or welding it in.. >:(

BOOO!! That's one of my fears every time I walk up to the 4R. I've heard that people put some loctite on the threads so that its harder to remove, but I'm not sure if it would end up working against you since more damage might be caused when they try to steal it.

On the other hand, the factory antenna was a real b**** to get off. Some people just twisted and it came off, I had to pull out pliers and apply some muscle to it.
 
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know the theft rate on 4 runners, say compared to other high theft vehicles, say a corolla? Stealing an antennae is one thing, stealing the vehicle is another? Should this be a big concern for us?

Unfortunately, that's the inherent risk you'll run with modifying a car in any sense. Anything from an aftermarket antenna like the OP/TS had mentioned to aftermarket rims, stereos, and even exhaust systems. If someone wants something you have bad enough, they'll try and (usually) take it.

Can't say for pre-5th gen 4runners but I doubt a 2010/2011 is high on any thief's list. There aren't enough 5th gens out there to merit the theft of a car there's not much demand (of stolen parts) for. Whatever the statistics are, I'm willing to bet that the rate of theft for a current generation Corolla is higher than the current generation 4Runner. There's just more Corollas out on the road to merit theft to begin with.

Not only is it fairly new but, unless I'm wrong, I don't think the 5th generation 4Runner literally shares a good number of components (i.e. motor, interior, panels, etc.) with other Toyota vehicles either past or present. I think the above is primarily one of the main reasons why cars like the 3rd generation Integra was such a hot car for thieves a number of years back. Same chassis from 1994 to 2001 with literally little to no change in the exterior or interior.

I had someone steal my chrome exhaust tip a couple of months back. Not a big deal, just ordered another.

Guess there will always be scum in every city. It's too bad not everyone gets the concept of going out and buying what you want.
 
Sorry to bump an old thread but if I was to crazy glue my stubby antenna, would the reception be worse?? lol...

Can't get much worse then you already have with a stubby. Seriously, no, super glue will not effect reception if you spead it only on the threads and do not over do it. But I do agree with Antman above. LOL :hatsoff:

I wouldn't try glue on stubby... If thief can't take it easily he will try harder to take it out (unscrew, bend, pull out, etc), which eventually may damage antenna base (fender antenna assembly) and I believe it costs more $ to replace compare to stubby.

Besides, as Antman said stubby 2.0 = stock ;)

I heard that this is not uncommon. When I modified my T4R tailpipe to exit out the side (behind the rear tire) to prevent exhausts from reentering through a partially opened rear window I had them weld the new chrome exhaust tip in place rather then use the clamps to prevent a potential theft.
 
I've been wanting a shorter antenna for my '11 Limited. Which one on mangowalk would be a good choice?

This makes perfect sense... If they want it bad enough they will try anyway to get it... You are right.. I rather lose 20bux then have to replace the whole thing.. Thank you sir...:)
 
You can wire sometype of voltage shocking device to the base of the antenna. There is a rubber mount to the antenna mount. You would only have to do it to the actual mast.
I suggest at least 10000v.
