Thieves are some of the lowest of the low, hope it is found safe and soon.

I often wondered about hiding the Apple "TILE" somewhere in a vehicle just for this reason. From what I gather, it uses the closest IPhone to kinda hijack a single to ping its location back to the desired phone of said user, might even be the thief themselves that end up sending you its location, wouldn't that be great?

Many cars aren't stolen for the car or car parts themselves...they're taken for a short period of time, say a couple of days or a week to conduct illegal activity such as drug dealing. They are then dumped before it's likely that it gets on the local police radar; delays in noticing it's stolen, delays in reporting, delays in updating the database, randomness of plate being run, etc...sometimes it's later found, most times not.

It's an occupational hazard for a drug dealer with a record to register a car in their own name...cops run the tag (many police agencies can now run tags automatically using cruiser mounted cameras and alert the officer) and 'poof', they are pulled over...solution: a car not registered in your name. Or the cops targeting high drug areas simply know which vehicles to watch out for so this "new" random vehicle just doesn't get noticed.

This kind of theft is blow black from increased terry stops of cars registered to an owner with a criminal record. Just like there was a spike in car jackings in the late '80s and early '90s when immobilizers hit the scene on expensive rides...can't steal the car without the key? Then steal the car when the driver is in the car with the key.

I hate to say it but it's probably on some container ship headed to Central America. There's a huge market down there for this kind of stuff and often the interiors are stuffed with cash or burner guns for the drug and gang trade.
