Stony Run / Bald Mountain Trail

Well fellas, old blue is fixed and I'm ready to wheel! This is a great little trail, about 14 miles long. It's listed as FR 162 on the map, near Sherando Lake here in the valley. The trail connects FR 42 to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Enjoyed our last trip, would like to get another one in this year. Any thoughts?

Hey dude! I would definitely be up for another trip sometime soon. I might not be able to make those trails though, it would be a 3 hour drive each way...

Yeah, that's a bit of a haul. There's a lot of good riding down this way. You'll have to venture down in the spring when the temps are conducive for camping. I have a membership to a private lake that's great for camping and is in close proximity to at least 2 trails. I plan on hitting this trail before it's closed for the winter, but always down for a trip!

According to the ranger's office, the trail will be closed for the winter on January 1. Being that this is in my backyard, dates are wide open.

I may be up for it, this Saturday or Sunday. It would be a haul from NoVa though. If it's warm enough we'd camp. Is there any decent hotels in the area?

I just ran this trail with a bunch of Jeeps, and long story short the runner had to be towed back to the house. Seems to be an electrical issue. The weather is supposed to be ****ty anyway. Hopefully ol blue will be going again soon!

Damn, sorry to hear. Good luck.

Anyone else? Getting new tires on tomorrow, so I'm a little anxious to try them out.
