Straight piped the Runner!!

It's definitely loud and it sounds deep from what I can hear. How does it compare to the Flowmaster 40? That's one of the deepest mufflers out there.

I like it, but it's not for everyone. It reminds me of mine with the Cherry Bomb Vortex, but not as loud.
BTW, my 85 Ranger V6 sounded badass when I cut the cats off and drove it to the muffler shop straight piped. My neighbor said he didn't know what was comin down the road but it sounded good.

To tell you the truth, i should of never of bought the 40, i shoulda just straight piped it in the first place, people say it sounds like a V8 and i love the sound, it has a very deep and "Throaty" roar. Aand trust me if i could take the cats off i would, but i wouldnt pass emissions test haha.

Ya i got alot of em man, but iv been lookin at 4runner forum for the past 3 months just lookin at all yalls rigs, and i finally joined so ill get my build thread up and going. And thanks!

I had a cutoff valve on my 3rd gen and I loved it. I had the option between stock muffler or straight out after the cat. For long drives I had the cutout closed but for around town or on the trails I opened it up and boy let me tell you I LOVED the sound. It is loud as hell and sounds so much better than any muffler. The rasp that resonates after 5K RPM is great, but start up really sounds great too.

I notice the younger the person is they love a loud obnoxious exhaust that gets attention but the older the crowd they seem to like it a little quieted down especially on those long highway trips. I like a tasteful exhaust note and not sounding like it has a fart tip on it.

Have to disagree. Ever notice that the majority of those VERY LOUD Harleys are driven by the "older crowd"? ;)

haha good point! but i don't think a Harley is a daily driver for a lot of these older people.

I'd have to agree on the age thing though, when i was younger i loved the loud noise now i almost think mine is too loud,

so are there any benifts to changing exhaust or straight piping? like Mileage or performance?

or does it just sound cool and turn heads???

You lose alot of back pressure so there is supposed to be a loss in power, and you would also lose a couple mpg, but atleast you get a nice highway drone.

Dang!!!! I knew i wasnt seeing things my gas mileage was going down pretty bad. like i go through 1/4 of a tank a day atleast, and + i drive 25-27 miles to school each day, but i love the noise...... ughhhhh. Awesome noise--or--better mpg!!!:ybrick::wtf:
