straight through vs chambered muffler

I am trying to figure out what type of muffler gives a deeper tone. I am tossing up the idea of the Magnaflow XL Turbo Muffler which is a 3 chamber muffler and the regular Magnaflow oval muffler. I know that a v6 will not sound like a v8. I am looking for a more aggressive tone for my 4 runner. I am looking at Magnaflow because they are stainless steel and will last with the New England winters.

Any opinions are welcome.

Thanks,

Mike

well im sure that some of the V6 magnaflow cat back guys can help ya out.

decided not to go with the spintech?

If I still had my 04 GTO then I would have gone with spintech. Some members at newagegto.com really like them. I think Ghostface80 is looking into the spintechs for his ride. I had responded to his thread to give inlet and oulet locations.

I have heard mixed responses that chambered mufflers have a tinny sound while straight through mufflers will be deeper. Then I read that straight thtough mufflers sound exotic and chambered mufflers are deeper.

I am basically looking for a long lasting muffler with a nice mellow tone to complement the truck. This is hard to do since we can't "test drive" mufflers. I saw the xl turbo mufflers on the magnaflow website and they are 3 chambered to eliminate some drone. I like the fact that they are the satin stainlees like the oval body perfomance mufflers.

Flowmasters are really deep, but do not come in stainless steel. I feel that stainless steel is really important in New England if you want your exhast to last.

Yup, I put on the Spintech Sportsman XL and have mixed feelings. I love the sound at most times as there is a rumble even at low accelerating rpms, it seriously sounds like a 5.0 with a flowmaster. but there definitely is a pretty loud drone cruising 70-75 on the freeway, enough where I have to raise my voice so my conversation doesnt get drowned out with whoever's sitting shotgun. There are several Tundra owners with the 4.7L who say the sportsman XL has no drone, but I dont know what they're thinking. Maybe there's a difference in piping between tundras and runners?

Definitely keeping it for now, but if I get tired of it I'll go to with the Dynomax super turbo which is what I had on my mustang, just slightly louder than stock at cruising speeds but gets loud when you get on it, and most important- almost no drone. I actually think this muffler would fit 90% of the needs of the owners on this board but when the price is that cheap, some people think you're also not getting a quality product. I dont think this is true with the super turbos.
