Strange noise, chassis flex?

When I put my car in reverse and start backing up I hear this very audible noise. It is hard to describe but sounds like two metal objects hitting each other. Its not violent or anything it almost sounds like theres a loose bolt or just chassis flex or something. Does anyone else experience this? Or do I need to take my 4runner to the dealership?

no one has an answer? It sounds the same every time, like two clicks or something. But it doesnt happen everytime I reverse only occasionally.

Does this happen when you apply the brakes? Mine does this constantly. It's the brake pads moving back and forth in their mounts. Example: If I put it in reverse, and lightly tap the brakes, I'll hear several clunks as the brake pads move backwards. Then, if I put it in Drive, and then lightly press the brake again, I'll hear it as the pads move forward. The noise only happens when you change direction. Nothing wrong though, normal sound.

The brake click is normal, if it's something you can feel rather than hear it's not the two clicks I'm referring to. Your mention of chassis flex indicates it's more substantial though...

I had a bad driveshaft U joint that would make a horrible noise when i backed up in my scout II but was fine when driving forward.....my .02
