Strange noise

I've got this strange noise under acceleration in low rpms...it's like a rattle/clank/ something loose. It's not a heat shield rattle or anything like that, it just sounds like something loose. It mainly does it from 1700-2200 rpms and is worse when the engine is cold. There's also another sound under heavy acceleration that sounds like a high pitch whoosh/whistle that gets louder as rpm's increase. Maybe these sounds are normal, but they annoy me so I'm wondering if anyone else has these noises. Engine is a v6, bone stock.

Even the rattle? I listened closer and it's there from the minute I get on the gas up til about 2500 rpm, even if it's gradual acceleration.

A crack in the manifold will sound like a ticking noise that goes away as the engine warms up. It will tick louder and faster as you get on the gas and RPMs increase. Even at gradual acceleration it will act the same. I can say with relative certainty there's a crack in the manifold where exhaust is escaping.

Once you find it, sand it down a little bit to get the rust off before trying to repair it.

Edit: as certain as I can be without knowing what year and how many miles, that is

That does sound like what its doing... It's a 2008 with 109k miles

So it's well within the appropriate time for things to start rusting out. Plenty of "how to's" on the interwebs on quik steel
