Strange noise

Hoping to get some guidance from the Toyota geniuses on this site: I went to drive my 5th gen this AM and there was a really odd noise coming from the rear cargo area underneath (driver side). Sounded like a faint buzzing or electrical motor. The truck had been in the garage all night with no power left on or key in the ignition. It was so odd that I thought it was coming from my houses hot water heater as opposed to my truck. I crawled underneath and was able to tell it was coming the very rear bottom around the gas tank/spare tire area. I was running late so instead of looking further I put the key in the ignition to turn the aux power on and the noise stopped. It ran fine and the noise has not returned. Any idea what the heck that was??? Thanks in advance!! 5203 miles on it...

Check Page 24 of your Owner's Manual, maybe this is what you are hearing?

"Noise from under vehicle after turning off the engine"

The short of it, states you may hear a sound about 5 hours after the engine has been turned off for sevral min, it's a evaporation check.

I'm pretty sure that this is something I wouldn't mess with with. Just let it do it's thing.

My sentiments exactly! BTW...the FJ's also suffer from the same annoying noise - as has been reported on the FJCruisers forum. From what I've read, no one has disconnected their evap systems as of yet! :
