Strange problem with my 03 4runner

V8 Runner

I was driving my runner like usual the other day and when i was parking i noticed a red light flashing on the dash. It said something like Oil temp. After that my check engine light came on.
The next day i tried driving it and it was fine for like 2 minutes until i turned the fan level up a notch and my engine made a weird noise and it suddenly stalled for a second and after that the truck kinda just jerked forward and slowed down again. I drove it back home immediately but on the way back it wasn't accelerating even when i step on the gas. Then it jerked again and slowed down.
I called my mechanic since I've only gotten it serviced 2 months ago and haven't even gone 1k miles. Also got a new water pump and timing belt at the service. My mechanic says it might have something to do with the throttle body but i can't really get it to him since his shop is 40 mins away.

Any input would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Is the check engine light still on? Was it on solid or flashing? Anytime you get a check engine light you should get the code pulled ASAP. It sounds like it's in limp mode. If there's an auto parts store nearby, most of them will pull the CEL code for free.

On a side note - might want to pick up a cheap scantool to keep in the glovebox. It's an invaluable tool and they can be had for under $20.

I'll look into that option, Thanks! Yeah the check engine light is still on and the maint light is also flashing when i start the truck.

Definitely get it scanned by a local parts store. I'd check all the fluid levels, etc. The flashing maintenance light is just for the oil change interval. Post up when you get the code and we can hopefully offer more insight.
