Strange Ticking

I just noticed that I am getting a ticking sound that varies with RPM. It only starts when the RPMs are above 1200 and does not do it when idling. It sounds like someone put a zip tie around my CV shaft or something only it doesn't change with speed. Any ideas? Is my tranny taking a crap on me or something? This is driving me nuts...there is nothing in the engine bay that is catching on anything else that I can see.

It doesn't get louder but the ticking becomes much more rapid. It's very dificult to hear over the engine but it's very noticeable around 1200-2500 RPM. I think it might be an exhaust noise but I can't imagine why it doesn't do it at idle but only while moving? It does it at idle for a split second but the it goes away until you lower the RPMs and gas it again.

How would I go about checking to see if it's an exhaust leak or an injector? I'll try and take a video after school.

Check your tires for a stone that might be stuck in the tread.

If it increases with speed ckeck your tires/ u-joints, If it increases with engine speed check your oil

get down under your truck while its running (be careful) and listen for whooshing noises from the piping, mufflers, and cat. Also move your hands along the system and see if you can feel for air.

A muffler shop would also do this for you obviously.

I got under the car and layed there while my mom gassed it and was able to figure out where it's coming from... the cat :bash: I tried putting pressure from all around on it with a rag and it still kept on clicking... oh well. Does this mean the cat is going bad or is no big deal? I really don't wanna shell out $200 for a new one right now.
