Street glow interior neon/leds

i was looking into it after hearing some friends talk about putting neon/leds in thier car.
I wanted to know if anyone has done that before.
im thinkin about leds inside the door panel to glow out the speaker holes. but i guess ud have to run the wires through the door.
not only that but in the footwell or anyother places any suggestions??
I just wanted to know if i could do that my self and how you wire them
