Why would any one do something like this!? He has several K in suspension under that thing and then puts those tires and wheels on there!? :wow: I don't get it....
I was going to post this same image when I saw the title of this thread lol! I came across it on Instagram. I try not to hate on what people do to their vehicles but I just don't like the look of this. I know it's the Hawaiian way or style but I'm not a fan. Also, take a look at the corners of the tread. They look like they are wearing.
I would also like to point out that I am not trying to hate, but just really want to know if there is a reason that people do this?
i suspect that style has it's origin in the desire for better traction in sand and mud, which is 95% of the offroading in hawaii. Kinda like the brodozers or the cali squat, what was once done in moderation with a specific function in mind has become overblown by posers whose trucks never leave pavement.
Speaking from NO experience on stretched tires, I believe it offers no real advantage and is done only for looks.
I imagine the mounting of tires onto rims that are too wide for them is more difficult, the tire was not designed to function in that setup so performance should not be improved (performance may in fact be reduced), damage to rims is much more likely, a loss of air pressure has a much greater chance of prematurely losing the bead seal, there is probably a much higher chance of sidewall damage, and it is possible that uneven wear will become an issue. Of a lower likelihood, but still possible, is the chance that steel bands within the tire could become stressed in ways that were not intended, leading to premature failure of the internal structure of the tire. I am just speculating here. I have no experience with tire stretching; I only have an engineering background.
ETA: Another possible disadvantage could be a greater sensitivity to tire pressures, specifically faster heat build-up with a small drop in air pressure. One slight possible advantage I can see is an extremely tiny increase in surface area for floatation, which could aid in traction on SOME surfaces.

Like I said the last time we *****ed about Hawaiian trucks, it's no different than what the majority of "modders" on this board do, it's a just a different aesthetic.
