So I am a native to Hawaii, born and raised. First of all, the wide and small tires are usually for driving on sand, since we drive up to beaches quite often. Also, yes, its a big trend in Hawaii. But even coming from a native, I think people are starting to use smaller and smaller tires, which I don't like. But it is what it is.

That type of tire is specially engineered to withstand the extra hot temps experienced when driving near Kilauea on the Big Island - the lava can get extremely hot so you need short, fat tires like that in order dissipate the heat and prolong tread life. I applaud them for being prepared for the next big eruption

The Arctic Trucks guys build for flotation in ....well the arctic. Totally different than the op's pic and purpose built.

From what I have seen their system works fine for it's intended purpose.
I like some of their homebrew CTIS.

This above image looks correct. The other....well....as long as it's not forced upon me I guess I don't really care how stupid it looks.
I wonder how well it performs........
