Hey Folks,
Spent a few hours searching on here and didn't find much. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I have the auto transmission, and just under 280,000 miles.
It was a particularly difficult trip home tonight, local temperature warmed up above freezing and suddenly my beautiful hard-frozen compact road surface turned into 8" of slush. I know the Yota got a work out, but no Trans Temp warning light or anything else. Made it home and came to a stop in 4H, but the transmission wouldn't shift out of Drive. Killed the engine and shifted the transfer case into neutral, then was able to shift the trans from Drive into 2, then L, then into Neutral. Thank god, I thought. Restarted the car in 2H and rolled forward a few inches to release whatever pressure was on the trans, managed to get Reverse, rolled a few inches back. With more pressure than I was comfortable exerting on the shift selector, I managed to get the trans into Park. Shut off and walked away, since it was time to start a fire and do chores.
I hope and pray that something got too warm and just didn't want to budge. Will check fluids in the morning light, and all the usual things.
Has this ever happened to anyone before? Where I'm at, trans parts and repairs are going to be a major issue. If I can pre-empt this issue somehow, I would love to.
