Stuck in Park -Brake Switch Faulty?

I'm in Zihuatanejo Mexico with my 95' 4 Runner 4 x 4. As of yesterday, the auto tranny wouldn't shift out of park. I finally figured out to pull out the little plastic piece between the gear selector and 4 x 4 selector (above in the middle) and then putting a little bobby pin in the to get it to release.

That worked, but is there any way to fic this? I tried a search but couldn't find anything...

PROBLEM SOLVED:

Fuse for the brake lights I believe was burnt. Replaced that and everything works again.
