Stuck in the snow

I wish I had taken a picture, but I high-centered my 4-Runner in the snow today when I inadvertently left the road in the Tulsa Blizzard of 2011. (Today)

I dug all 4 tires out, but was unable to get traction even in 4-low with A-TRAC on.

I will have to wait till tomorrow so I can get a friend to pull me back onto the road. It is near whiteout conditions here. I guess I should have waited a while to get out. (as seeing the road is kinda important). :nono:

Did you have snow tires on? if yes, then you where probably in too deep!
 
The idea of testing out the 4wd in the snow has made it tempting to go out today in the blizzard here (KC, MO), but I've thought otherwise so far. I think your experience just confirmed that I need to be smart instead of brave since I have no real reason to go out.
 
I say go try it out, but only after the wind dies down and you can see the road. I was on a freeway on-ramp, with no visiability to the left and right edges (no signs)
 
Expecting "7-12inches". But I just stuck a ruler in the snow off the back porch and it's 9" and no sign of slowing down. That same grass was snow-free yesterday.
 
Not stuck in the snow

I live in Muskogee, about 45miles southeast and we got the same-9 or 10". My 4R TE had no problem handling the snow but I stayed on the road. Stayed in 4Lo with A-Trac on. The north south road had huge drifts all handled without any issues-but it WAS amazingly deep. I live in a very rural area and was the first to leave-and return. One guy tried to get out the same road I live on and got about a block before he got stuck. He had to walk home.

Without the 4R, we would be stuck at home for a week.

It won't matter what type of vehicle you're driving if you get the right kind of conditions. Sometimes you just have to get out the snowmobile.

I just drove home from work here in Kansas City with no issues. I even stopped for coffee. I'm getting ready to take my son to his moms in just a little while and will try to get some pics.

I'm a little surprised that the coffee place and anywhere else was actually open! Then again, I'm a newly transplanted Southerner and just expect everything to shut down when the forecast says, "s-n-o-w".
 
We're getting the blizzard now, forecast 14 - 18" overnight. I went out twice because I could. The 4R is a snow beast with Blizzaks.

I'd trade!

I'd trade you guys... we now have 3 inches of ICE... and still falling... power lines and trees are snapping everywhere! I wouldn't take my 4runner out in this for anything. (Indiana)

It's been pretty tough here in NY too. My wife hasn't had a complete week of school since mid December. This stint it looking like a 2-3 day ordeal here. Day 1 today, and there is some major stuff headed our way after it's done with you guys.. I'm glad I shovels my roofs off early last week... Now they are talking about another one on Saturday.

I'm EXTREMELY surprised our fire district hasn't had a single call today...

As far as the T4R is concerned, the limited tires SUCK in the snow even with the AWD. I drive my plow truck in 2wd 80% of the time. I'm trying to get setup with a nice set of knobby's on some TE wheels for wintertime.

I hear you. I attended college in the Nyack, NY area and know what snow is like up there.
 
Yes the stock tires on the TE suck as well. Don't know why it was fitted with all-seasons instead of all-terrian on the Trail Edition 4runner. I will replace it with Revo2 soon. I had a set of Revo's on my last vehicle and they performed very well in snow.
