Stuck Sunroof Moonroof

Just had a recent offroad trip and the sunroof wouldn't open. I could hear the switch making contact so I knew I had power. It stopped working when the back end tilted down.

Anyway, I did a search on here to see what the likely fixes were and came across a thread where someone removed the entire switch, map light, glass holder assembly to access the motor and tapped it with a hammer.

I can't seem to find that thread again but I wanted to give the guy some kudos as that's exactly what fixed mine. I used a small ball-peen hammer and tapped it a few times. If anyone stumbles across that thread, link my thread to it. Thanks!

I think I'm going to leave it closed for a while!

I agree, mine has never worked, one of the buttons make the motor move for just a second, but the glass never moves. The other button does nothing. I need to take my roof rack off and take it all apart. Now I have the issue of it raising up when wind catches it.

This has happened to me as well. Tapping the motor unfreezes the motor brushes from the armature, but I wouldn't consider it a fix. It hasn't happened to me again but the proper fix would be a new motor. But until it happens again, I'll probably keep smacking it to work!

I have the reverse issue. The sunroof won't close all the way, and sticks in the same position (see image). I've tried re-initiating but that didn't work--I assume because the roof wouldn't close all the way and couldn't tilt up. Anyone have ideas on what to check before I buy parts for the TSB?

I'll venture to guess the cables are frozen. If anyone is taking the sunroof apart you should replace both cables. DO NOT and I mean DO NOT think you can re-grease them, it'll just be a complete failure and you'll end up frustrated. I tried re-greasing the cable and it was just a completely bad idea.

But wouldn't that mean the glass wouldn't move at all? I'm still able to move it all the way back, and forward up to here, where it behaves like something is blocking it. I've check the tracks and as far as I can tell there's nothing blocking them.

I still can't see your photo but it is certainly possible for the cable to be bound somewhere allowing for a range of motion. There really isn't much to the sunroof besides the cables, motor, and other mechanical pieces associated with the movement of the sunroof. It is quite a PITA to take apart but you'll certainly want to swap it out with new cables if you want it to work again.

I can't see your picture either, but I had trouble closing mine from the tilt position, cleaning the rubber surfaces and lubricating them with silicon grease solved my problem.
