Stupid human trick

Had just gotten off freeway waiting at stoplight when I noticed the 4-wheel drive lights were on. What? Sure enough, the round switch was in H4. Quickly flipped it back to H2. Trip was short (4miles).

A few weeks later I went to back out of a parking spot when I noticed the same thing happened again.

Turns out the switch was getting flipped clockwise into H4 when I turned the engine off. If I grabbed the key a certain way, the bottom of the key would bump the bottom of the switch just enough to flip it. I've got one of those rubber cases over the fob, so it makes the entire thing a little thicker.

Another one of those stupid human tricks for the books. -Ken

I'm thinking it's a 4th GEN.
5th Gen. Limiteds don't have keys!!

Definitely sounds like a 4th gen, since the 5th gen Limited is in full time 4WD.

At any rate, if it's a 4th gen, it won't hurt anything as long as the center diff is unlocked.

Yeah you are right about it being a 4th gen. In fact there is really nothing to worry about since the 4th gen can be driven on dry pavement in H4.

My apologies for posting on the wrong board. It happens that I'm also a member of a popular Chrysler minivan forum and it is organized by generation also. And I own a 5th gen Town & Country...

I've had my 05 4runner since 2004 and you should have no problem going up to 60 MPH in 4H. :lmao:

Shouldn't have any problem going any faster either Just don't shift it in or out above.

4RunnerFan: I can't seem to get my head around how you're accidentally doing this. How big is the casing you have on it?? Got a pic by chance? Becuase i'm doin' one of these trying to work it out :redbrick:
