Stupid oil change question

I recall seeing a post where some guy hung a funnel from just below the oil filter mount, so that it drained down the filter (and a small piece of tubing attached to it) and straight into a pan.

I suppose that would be helpful with the fender well approach.

If you guys are having to use wrenches to get the filter off I would say you are over tightening them in my opinion. I can get them plenty tight enough by hand and getting it off just takes one strong turn. Never had a problem in 11 years.

When one can easily reach the filter with clean hands, your statement is 100% correct, imo.

When the filter is at full horizontal arm's reach and the [gloved]hands already have slippery spooge on them, a normally+correctly tightened filter is difficult or impossible to remove. Maybe if it had a grippy textured surface I could turn it, but the smooth painted ones, forget it.
