All V8 4wd models are AWD/full time 4wd. Not selectable. Simple as that.
They did make the V8 with 2wd.

Xreas was an option only for Limiteds and Sport models.

Good info. That make me want a V8 even more.

most likely, if they don't list it as 4WD, then its a 2wd.

Most likely it is 2WD period, at least around here.

Just make sure there's detailed service history. Those timing belts need service more often than the v6's timing chain...

Good to know, thanks, I've been warned by a fellow enthusiast down here that odometer fraud is really bad in south FL.

If it is 4wd, make sure the transfer case is working properly. There is a reason there is a post here titled "use it or lose it". Should engage properly into 4wd(v6 models) in less than 20 seconds. Same goes for both models switching to 4LO. It shouldn't take long, and if there is a delay and the lights continue to blink then the previous owner didn't properly engage 4wd on a monthly basis.

avoid the ones with a 2runner badge and you should be fine.

The easiest way as said is to look for the switch on the dash. As stated most people with 2wd will try to hide it because (no offense) they are not worth nearly as much. I almost drove 5 hours to go look at one before catching a glimpse at the front end and noticing no shafts at which point I asked the owner and even though he said it was 4wd he changed his story and said the vehicle was his fathers and he didnt know. The only other thing you can do is ask for the vin and just call toyota.

This........as well as take that VIN to the Toyota owners website and check the maintenance history.
