Stupid question... How much weight can a 2008 support?

So yeah,.. I guess the question itself isn't stupid. But the reason I'm asking kinda is. I recently purchased two pallets of landscaping wall bricks. I don't have a hitch installed (yet) so towing is out of the question. I believe the dimensions of the pallets will fit inside the cargo area (one per trip of course), but I'm thinking that the 4runner probably wasn't built to handle that kind of weight in the cargo area. At the same time, I read the specs in the manual and it's max cargo capacity seemed low to me. Anyone want to chime in?

Go ahead,.. call me an idiot for even thinking about doing this. I was just curious.

BTW,.. the pallets come in at around 3012 pounds.

No, you can't carry 3000+ lbs inside a 4Runner -- the darn truck itself only weighs 4600 lbs. A 2008 V8 4WD has a payload limit of about 1400 lbs. Most F150s wouldn't carry that load -- out of 30+ different F150 variants, only a single one can carry 3000 lbs and most are less than 2000 lbs. Even some Ford Superduty trucks (F250+) can't carry 3000 lbs.

Nope, you can't carry that load in your 4Runner. You'll break things. Don't even think about trying it.

Go to Home Despot and rent one of their trucks for $70/hour -- it's a lot cheaper than fixing your truck.

AFAIK the maximum weight that'll go in the trunk of a 4runner is 500lbs. I've had more in mine with the seat flat (thus distributing the load), but not much more, maybe up to 700lb. I can't believe anyone would even faintly consider putting ton and a half *inside* a mid-sized SUV :wow:

Rent a truck, make 10 trips yourself, or better still pay someone to deliver. It'll cost more but save you a lot of hassle.

Strongly agree with all the above. Not worth damaging your rig. Also, where do you think that ton of bricks would end up if you got in an accident. (which is a good possibility when your brakes fail to stop the weight)

LOL,.. Yeah, I pretty much knew that already. But it was just one of those things that even though I knew the answer, I just had to ask. I guess it was just wishful thinking that got the best of me.
