Hey everyone; I have a few quick questions about crossing water in a 4Runner. I took my truck out for some fun today, and for the first time ever had to cross some water.
My question is; how deep of water would you be comfortable crossing in a stock '16 SR5?
There were three water crossings total on the short trail I did, and I walked every crossing before driving through - the water was shallow, and only at one point maybe went above my boot.
At the deepest, lets round up and say the water was maybe 1 foot deep maximum. From what I could see the water never got higher than the lower 1/3 of the wheels, maybe at absolute most halfway up the wheel if we are generous.
After the last crossing I took a look underneath and it looks like the bottom of the rear diff never even got wet, and only the bottom face of the fuel tank and engine skid plates got wet.
I was very careful with every crossing and checked them all out ahead of time, but now that I am home I find myself overthinking this.
When should one become concerned about checking differential fluid or transmission fluid? Do I need to worry about anything now? I did do a search and read a bit of some past threads regarding similar questions, but I still wanted to get some relevancy to a stock '16 SR5.
