Stupid "what gauge wire" question

I know squat about wiring/elect, so I must apologize up front. :fear:

I’m moving one of the horns outta’ the way of my Tranny Cooler install, and I just need to extend the wiring about 12”. What gauge wire should I use for the extension?

You should probably match what's in there. I haven't looked but its probably 18-20ga

I don't want to cut the wire to see, just wanted to buy a couple of spade connections and length of wire, figured someone would know. I was just going to go with 16 ga thinking it was overkill, and not worry about it.

As he said, same as the factory size is fine.

If you can't match it exactly it won't hurt anything at all to go a little larger.

This, just don't go smaller. There's an inline fuse for the horn so you don't want to make a smaller wire weaker than the fuse if it ever does blow, could cause issues in your engine bay.

Why are you moving the horns?

Tryin to fit in some old F150 horns, doesn't fit cuz of the tranny cooler. Gotta move it over to driver's side. Simple, just need a bit more wire to get it to where I want.

wire size wont matter much, just use the same size.

Im sure someone will come in an calculate the voltage drop and prove to you there is a difference
