Such a thing as a GX470 with no sunnroof?

Is it possible to purchase a GX470 without a sunroof installed?

Spouse misses the bell and whistles that were in the jeep. I like the reliability of a toyota but the 4runner just does not quite have all the toys.

I do hate sunroofs. Just another thing to cause grief and I do not need help with a solar heater living in Florida.

Nope, GX470's come standard with a moonroof.

Just have the cover closed at all times. That way it won't feel like you have a sunroof.

If your worried about it leaking.. it won't.

I have never liked sunroofs. Never saw one that didn't leak eventually. Guess that will be a decision point.

Sure,

Its called a 4runner. Its about 10k less, is built on the same platform, same engine and drivetrain. Its roofline is 2" shorter, handles better, accelerates better, and is available without the sunroof. As such, it is available with the 3rd row seats if you delete the sunroof, although I don't know of anyone whos wanted a vehicle without one unless it was for racing.
I've never had a Toyota sunroof leak in 24 years, if that eases your mind at all.

I have an '04 Limited at 18k miles and have had no issues with my sunroof.

I gave my daughter my '92 Camry with 170,000 miles and NEVER had any issues with the sunrroof. No leaks, malfunctions, etc. I use my sunroof very often. Hey, these are Toyotas we have here.

In the summer I enjoy my 4Runner with sunroof open, all windows down (and they go all the way down - including the tailgate wondow. The "correct" opening tailgate and opening rear window are two of the reasons I chose my Limited over the GX. Beautiful interior in the Lexus, but I like the exterior styling and handling dynamics of the Runner better (not to mention 12K less).

I would never buy a car with an aftermarket sunroof, for 1 the cars roof structure is different on models without sunroofs, aftermarket companies are basically just guessing that it will be fine if they cut a hole in the roof and thats the problem they are cutting a hole in the roof and then placing a sunroof ontop and hoping the glue will secure all around and stop any leaks:

some companies do an excellent job but eventually the glue will dry out and the leaks start.

OEM or factory sunroofs are pressed in, their is a big difference between the 2, especially since factory sunroofs don't leak.

really depends on your area, some areas the dealers add tons of aftermarket options like sunroofs, just got be be alert and know what your buying, a new car should have it on the window sticker or have an additional window sticker of the added stuff.

a factory sunroof has excess metal that is folded inside the area where the sunrook is pressed in, aftermarket is nothing:

I'm wondering what car he had that the sunroof leaked on. None of the Porsches, Lexus or Saabs I've had leaked.

Lots of us don't want sunroofs. I hate the fact that I lose 2 inches of head room just to have a sun roof that I don't use. I've only used mine about 3 times. I've left it and the interior cover closed the rest of the time.

This doesn't only apply to 4runners, in the DC metro area it's almost impossible to find a car on a dealers lot that doesn't have a sun roof. I was trying to find an Infinity G35 coupe without a sun roof a year or so ago and there were none to be had. The only way to get one was to special order it and wait 4 months for delivery.

It does seem odd that they would include sunroofs on vehicles in the northeast. Here in California I use it nearly every day Opening the roof always brightens my mood.

BTW, a bit off topic, I would love to see some pics of your truck Spyne. I see so few of the gold-colored 4Runners.

I have NEVER heard such crazy talk! You HATE sunroofs? How could you hate sunroofs? I drive with mine open EVERY mile of my cars life (except for when it's raining to hard...but in a drizzle, that b is still open lol.) Maybe its because I am a south florida spoiled 18 year old beach bum but I have never heard of someone that didn't want a sunroof.

on my 99 corolla the sunroof has been open religiously too, and there sure as hell ain't no leeks in that either. Again, these are both toyota factory, no aftermarket bs lol

Some people may DISLIKE (hate is such a harsh word) the sunroof for various reasons.. Apparently someone is thinking logically and it IS a possibility years down the road for leaking...

Now a reason that I chose NOT to get a 4runner with sunroof is because the headroom! Even w/o a sunroof, headroom's already a KILLER for me.. But with my GX, it's ok to have a sunroof cuz the headroom is still significant, EVEN with the sunroof.

Headroom in a GX is 2" greater than the 4runner to begin with, so unless your'e an NBA player, I doubt anyone would have an issue with headroom.

I special ordered (5 months wait) my 4R mainly to get it with out the sunroof. Not only did I want the extra headroom but I have owned a Toyota (Camry) in which the SR leaked profusely and it was big $$$ to get fixed, then it leaked again a year later.

Well the 2" makes a big difference! I mean come on, you guys are the ones that put 2" spacers or whatever lifts on your trucks, and you guys think that your 4Runners are much better for offroad, but it's "only" 2 inches! lol..

Plus i HATE the burning sun of the Central Valley during the summer so opening the moonroof is NOT an option during the summer months.. During winter it might be raining.. Plus I dont want my new car smell totally going away yet. haha..
