On setting out recently with my 2008 Limited, I noticed a substantial bounciness in the rear suspension. It just didn’t feel ‘locked in’. I pulled off the road and cycled through the ride height adjustment which did not appear to work even though the indicator flashed properly. I assume I have an issue with the air suspension, perhaps a sensor? Has anyone had a similar experience? Any feedback will be appreciated. Cheers.

Thanks for the quick reply and the links, it's giving me a lot to think about. Now that I have moved to BC, I have to give some serious thought to the future of this old Ontario 4Runner. On the one hand, I want to beef it up to better explore my new environment and this may be a good opportunity to get started. But it has also been very expensive recently in just routine repairs on an older vehicle. Decision time....

This is just my opinion...but fixing the suspension on a older but otherwise good vehicle is way, way better than a car payment, and much cheaper in the long run.
Now if your older vehicle is not a otherwise good vehicle and has numerous other major issues, not more or less minor issues then ignore my comment.

I completely agree, I can't realistically afford a new vehicle and it will be hard to find a used equivalent. My greatest concern is my frame, I need to get it up on a hoist and have someone with an unbiased opinion give me the news. If it's decent news, I may add some armour, lift and upgraded suspension in preparation for some more serious exploration in the north. If it's bad news, I'll keep the XREAS/RAS as it is and use it as my daily driver and adjust my travel plans accordingly. One way or another, it will get repaired,

I'm certain your sensors are toast.
I happen to have two sensors, in almost new condition, in a box somewhere. If you're in Coquitlam, you're not far from me.

Hopefully your frame is in OK condition, it's big issue if not, if it's is really bad I would be hesitant to keep driving it unless the bad areas can be cut out and new metal welded in if not too expensive, only way to know is with a good inspection of it by someone that knows how to access the condition, let us know what you find out upon the inspection!
Rus at Rustblasters out in Chilliwack would be able to tell you if there's enough meat left on the bones that it's good... or if now's the time to bail.

Just to close the loop. My 4Runner was given a generally optimistic assessment on the frame rust situation, so work went ahead as hoped. The air suspension problem was the compressor, so it was replaced and now works fine. XREAS system was removed and new Bilstein shocks and struts installed. It runs great again. Thanks again for the tips, I now feel confident enough to do some more upgrades over the winter.
