suggestions on new set of tires, tired of vibration and noise from duractracts

thanks for the input guys, I will definitely look into the suggested tires. A new set of duratracts are out of q because im just not happy with how they handle on long trips and the noise is just getting to me now. I do like the aggressive look but its dancing around the hwy as they get older.

How many miles do you have on them? Mine have been fantastic so far.

So strange how people with the same tires have such different experiences. I have seen it over and over again. Maybe it is just expectations or the tires getting blame for other issues (like bad caster). I don't know.

i'm not exactly sure how many miles i have on them but I have 52k in my vehicle right now. so anywhere from 15-25k give or take. i could be wrong. Can you elaborate more on the caster? the tires started with a slight noise and it drove them from texas to colorado without issues when they were new. However, now they're too loud like if they were mud terrains. also the the vibrations got worse over time and the vehicle feels more loose on the highway. I automatically put the blame on the tires due to the overall symptoms which progressively worsened as the tires wore. I may be wrong, I do love the aggressive look of the tires so if it maybe something else then i could have that checked.

At3s or St maxx.. The later are quite a bit heavier in the sidewallls if I recall.. Depends what your needs are.

Could be an alignment issue. Check to see if they are wearing evenly. I put toyo at2 on at 500 MI. 2000 MI later they were humming kind of loud. Got an alignment and they were quiet again. Camber on one of mine was way out of spec.

I thought my duratracs were quiet and smooth as well

first attempt the balance was ALL dicked up, then I had them road force balanced and they were smooth as glass

I did get a bad one that we couldn't get balanced. traditional balance would show good but when roadforced it showed the tire was bad.

I have about 21k on my duratracs and like them a lot. What psi do you keep in them? I have the P metrics and keep them at 38 psi and don't notice a hum at all. The less pressure you have in there the greater the hum will be though.

It is normal for them to get louder over time. My expectations just may be very different.... Also. my truck drove like crap with these tires until I got the caster to +3.5 (this usually requires aftermarket UCAs)

Load rating matters, go with Ps or Cs. What are you running now? Go back to Nittos, those are plenty quiet.

I was in Houston and Galveston last week. Holy smokes, your roads are pretty beat up.

I love my Cooper ATP's. Got a steal of deal from Discount Tire about a month ago. They normally sell for $788 a set, but they were offering $100 off with Paypal + $70 rebate. So $618 delivered was a no-brainer.

When I saw the tread, I was a bit skeptical of road-noise...but they are quiet!

Running 285/70/17 Cooper AT/3's for over 10,000 miles now. Drove them 2x from Texas to Colorado. No Road noise or vibrations. Haven't done any serious wheeling but so far they have done great on wet concrete,asphalt and the snow packed/ice mountain roads in Colorado. I bought these to make sure that I would have comfortable highway drives and still be able to handle snow pack, ice, mud etc. I have been very happy with the wear patterns, balance and performance of the tires so far. They are a little more pricey than the ATP's which might be another option.

40k on my Cooper ATP's. Still look new. They have gotten a little louder, but very smooth. Ive been extremely happy with them, and considering the price compared to other AT tires, they are an awesome deal.

The tires could be out of round. A high speed balance might reveal that. Also check for uneven wear in the tread. Measure tread depth with a small metal scale you can get at the hardware store. Or with a match stick using your finger grip on the tread and a scale. There are several scale tools that could make this job easier. It has to be accurate to small increments if you're going to find uneven wear. Check around the tire for out of round wear and side to side for unbalanced wear, tire inflation problems or alignment issues.

Take it somewhere other than where you bought the tires for a balance check and alignment check.

Do you have a lift on the suspension? Lots of issues with alignment with lifts and not everyone knows how to align them.

Others may be able to comment on what I've said here who know more about tires than me. I'd welcome any knowledgeable feedback and ideas about my post.

I can relate as I just just came from a set of Duratracs (LT265/70). I had 36K miles on them and they were loud, never quite balanced, and didn't track very straight at highway speeds (required a lot of input). Went off-roading a month ago and opened up the sidewall on a very routine hill climb. I opted for a new set of tires since the siping was mostly gone and I wasn't fully satisfied with my tires anymore.

Now I have BFG KO2's (LT285/70) and it is a night-and-day difference. These tires are quiet and smooth. They also track much better so I won't be so fatigued after long road trips. I absolutely love these tires and have fallen back in love with my truck all over again.

The Duratracs served me well for the most part but the KO2s are just head and shoulders better. YMMV.
