I purchased a 2003 4Runner, V8, sport edition. I started smelling the sulfur, the day I brought it home. I called the dealership immediately, but they told me that it was the gas. This was the same gas that they filled it up with(Mobil-87). I have since tried every different kind of gas in my area. The only gas that seemed to work a little better was Amaco 93. I have contacted my dealership again about this problem, they told me that a service bulletin was sent out to them, that recommends using 91 octane or higher. This is a problem, when I bought the 4Runner in July of 03, the sticker on the window recommends 87 octane, now their telling me I have to spend more $ on gas so my truck doesn't smell like bad ass. The smell is so embarrising, when friends and sometimes clients are in the vehicle. With the money I spent, there is no way I should have to put up with this smell. I love everything about the 4Runner, except that horrid smell. This was the first Toyota I have ever owned. Unless this problem is corrected, I will not buy Toyota again. I am going to talk to a lawyer in the near future. I am so disappointed with the way Toyota is handling the situation. I have met with many people in my area that have 03 $Runners & Sequoias and not one of those people, had a problem with this sulfer smell. If the smell is because of the gas, then why are these people not getting this horrid smell in their vehicles?

It is highly UNLIKELY that a higher octane gas will improve matter...your dealer is just trying to blow you off. But, it's worth a try just to prove to them.
Unfortunately, this does NOT apply only to Toyota. All across the brands (Audi, Volvo, Ford, etc.) has this stinky problem. Most ULEV-rated vehicle have this problem.
Only thing you can do for sure is to move to California.
Sorry to hear your problem. I don't think that you can enact the Lemon Act on this problem UNLESS you can prove to them that it is bad for your health (no case of health problem yet) or that it is a mechanical defect specific to your vehicle (which it isn't).

P.S.2: maybe try those "ionized deorderizer" that plugs into your power point.
