sulfur smell!!

i have a 2007 4runner sport edition.

whenever i accelerate medium to hard, there's this sulfur smell. is this normal? i saw some boards w/ topics on this, but i think it was mostly for the 03-04 models.

also, when i get to around 2k rpm, i start hearing the belts turning? i know nothing about cars, but it just gets noisier and it sounds like the belts are pretty loud.

As far as the sulfer smell...get used to it! Even if you have to TSB done you still get a little bit of a smell.

The belts may be a different story. I know the V8 really sucks some air when you step on it so maybe thats what your hearing?

Search it here in this forum and you will get all the info you want about the smell.........but not a fix.

Think of the smell in positive terms:

The catalyst is cleaning itself up under rich conditions.

I get the sulfur smell when my window is down on my 4Runner. The thing I don't understand is why so many people don't expect this. Your window is down and the exhaust is coming in the back window. When I drive my Jeep with the rear window up, I get the same thing.

I think any vehicle with a removable/roll down rear window would do the same thing. Right???

Many people say this smell enters the cabin even when the windows are up and/or at least the back window is up.

I drive with my rear window down a lot and only get the smell sometimes when I really get on the gas pedal.

Yes, with the windows up. That is why many people were SO concerned about it.

But I have not experienced it either.

Your engine should be acceptably quiet at 2,000 rpm. This sounds unusual.

I thought you guys were joking about the smell till I tried it. Just roll down the back window and gun it and see what happens. Won't ever do that again, its bad.
