summer/winter tires and spare

Ok, here's my dilemma, I want to run Duratracs 265/70/17 for three seasons, and want to run my Nokians 265/65/17 in winter. Currently my spare is stock 265/65/17. Can I put a 255/70/17 spare since it is only 1/2" difference from each? It would be right in the middle of the two. I know, I've read the sticky on up-sizing tires, but I wonder since its only a 1/2" difference I can get away with one spare instead of getting two. thanks for the help

Completly not answering your question, but Duratracs are severe winter rated, I'd sell your winters and run them all year. Problem solved.

Thanks for the reply. I have absolutely considered that option, but there is absolutely no way the Duratrac can perform as well as dedicated snow/ice tires like my hakkas or blizzaks. The compound is different, and although the Duratrac has sipes, it cannot compare to the extreme siping of winter tires. I've had too many bad experiences in snow/ice driving that I am very anal about winter tires.

265/65/17 stock, I guess you have a 4th gen? Anyway, yes, you can run the 255 as a short term spare. Don't want to be putting hundreds or thousands of miles on it, though.

On a related note, since you're getting winter covered with dedicated snows, why on earth would you run Duratracs essentially as a summer tire? I can sort of see using them year round because of their winter properties, but choosing a Q speed rated, snowflaked, LT tire with no cap ply to run all year except in winter seems odd.
