Sunroof fixed?

One of my plastic brackets that holds the wind deflector broke on my sunrrof. Best I could tell the little tab that holds it in the sunroof track broke off and caused it to keep slipping out of place. I dropped it off on Tuesday morning at the dealer expecting it to be a simple fix. I also mention the rattle (everyone with a sunroof knows what rattle I'm talking about) and ask if there is anything that can be done to fix it. I basically get the same response from both guys I talk to: a chuckle and they tell me they all rattle. I wasn't surprised with the answer and I headed off to work. The service guy calls me early that afternoon and says they need to replace the motor. I didn't expect to have to get a new motor, but it's warranty work. When I picked it up the invoice says they replaced the housing sub-assembly, cable sub-assembly, and gear assembly. I think it's basically a whole new sunroof except for the glass. The best part was as soon as I started driving, it was quiet, even with the sun shade open. Before, I could never stand to drive with the sunroof closed and the sun shade open, the rattling would drive me crazy. I don't even remember if my sunroof was ever this quiet when it was brand new. My question is will it stay quiet? Anyone else had this stuff replaced and not had the rattles return? After owning the 4Runner for over 2 years, my biggest complaint has been the sunroof. If it stays quiet, I may have to consider my truck as perfect.

I had my sunroof worked on about 2 years ago and so far so good. The sunroof got stuck open and I think the left track was replaced. So far so good. I've got an extended warranty so hopefully if it decides to break, it'll break while that warranty is still valid...

Hate to say it, but the rattle will come back. I had the rattle fixed a few months after I bought my 4Runner. Here I am 3 years later and my moonroof has a very faint rattle again and I'm out of warranty. It only does it when it's closed and the sunshade is open, so I either tilt it up or close the shade.

My 05 SE went in recently for a grinding type noise in the sunroof when opening and closing. It never got stuck, that is until they replaced it. Needless to say, 16 days later and 1 engineer looking at it its working. They replaced my whole entire sunroof twice in those 16 days and 3 motors. Won't be getting a sunroof in my next Runner.

Damn, I keep hearing about the sunroof problem and it is making me nervous. I have an '07 SE on order and this seems to be a reaccuring problem. Anyone out there have an '07 with this problem??? I'm trading in my '00 GC Limited that does not have a sunroof and that was one of the things I was looking forward to having on the Runner.

My first car was an '82 Toyota Celica GT with a power sunroof and I never had a problem with it, even after attempting to open it with a ski rack on top of it. 25 years later you would think that Toyota could get this problem resolved. It ain't exactly ground-breaking technology. :bash:

Sunroofs are an awesome luxury, up until they break :)

I had my sunroof on my 93 celica fixed to a tune of $800...
