One of my plastic brackets that holds the wind deflector broke on my sunrrof. Best I could tell the little tab that holds it in the sunroof track broke off and caused it to keep slipping out of place. I dropped it off on Tuesday morning at the dealer expecting it to be a simple fix. I also mention the rattle (everyone with a sunroof knows what rattle I'm talking about) and ask if there is anything that can be done to fix it. I basically get the same response from both guys I talk to: a chuckle and they tell me they all rattle. I wasn't surprised with the answer and I headed off to work. The service guy calls me early that afternoon and says they need to replace the motor. I didn't expect to have to get a new motor, but it's warranty work. When I picked it up the invoice says they replaced the housing sub-assembly, cable sub-assembly, and gear assembly. I think it's basically a whole new sunroof except for the glass. The best part was as soon as I started driving, it was quiet, even with the sun shade open. Before, I could never stand to drive with the sunroof closed and the sun shade open, the rattling would drive me crazy. I don't even remember if my sunroof was ever this quiet when it was brand new. My question is will it stay quiet? Anyone else had this stuff replaced and not had the rattles return? After owning the 4Runner for over 2 years, my biggest complaint has been the sunroof. If it stays quiet, I may have to consider my truck as perfect.
