Sunroof LOUD wind noise - '95 Gen2

So this was a low priority for this new purchase considering my clutch and throttle issues I had to address first but now is the time.....

The sunroof seems solid. No leaks. No wind noise when closed. Works great. However, once I open the sunroof more than a few inches the wind noise is deep (you feel it on the ears) and loud. You can't hear anything. I know this isn't right. I have the front bar of my aftermarket Yakima rack right at the front of the sunroof. I've never dealt with this before. Is this the reason you need the wind shield in front of the rack? I always thought that was just for decoration/vanity. Never gave it much afterthought.

Any help would be appreciated.

Does the little wind jammer pop up when the glass goes back. Its alittle stainless bar that pops up after the window goes back so far. With the window open you should be able to reach up on the front edge and pull this piece down. Resting your hand on it is enough pressure dont try to force anything. If nothing moves inspect further. Make sure it's not missing, or broken making it unable to raise.

The windjammer does pop up. It's a 2 inch plate that runs the width of the sunroof with several oval holes cut in it. Looks 100% factory and it appears to work correctly.

1) I'll post some pictures.

2) I'm gonna pull the front bar (or both) from my roof rack and see if it makes a difference.

I am guessing that a lot of the noise is coming from your roof rack. I have a Jetta TDI wagon and when my cross bars are on the rack even if I am not carrying anything the make a lot of noise.

I have noticed that if the sunroof is open, but none of the door windows are open (or at least cracked 1/4 of the way down), then the air pressure hurts my ears.
