My sunroof got stuck during the "full open" operation. While the motor pulled the glass all the way back, the clicking sound of skipping gears came up, and one side of the sunroof glass was pulled back further than the other side. This resulted in a stuck sunroof glass which was out of alignment. With some brute force I supported the motor pulling the glass back into straight position and closed the sunroof. Opening and closing it is all normal as long as I DO NOT OPEN IT ALL THE WAY BACK IN AUTO MODE! AUTO MODE all the way to the back gets the sunroof glass stuck every time!

After searching widely on this forum and other sources, there are a few observations and questions I could not find an answer for:

It seems that there is no proper sketch of the mechanism? The TSB does not provide a good sketch. Any good explosion sketch?

My sunroof is well taken care of: no rust, no broken teeth in the gear, motor runs fine, the sunroof frame is not bend or damaged and has been well greased by me - BUT - the motor continues to pull the sunroof glass too far back resulting in the entire glass getting out of alignment when pushed back beyond the point where the sun roof is fully open.

Now my questions:

1. - How can I disable the auto mode and make the switch work ONLY IN MANUAL MODE - meaning the glass would be pulled back only as long as I push the button! This would solve my problem, but I could not find a way to disable the AUTO MODE!

2. - Any hints why the AUTO MODE suddenly started pulling the sunroof glass too far back? It worked fine for the last three years. I did already the RESET with the button pushed for 20 secs, I also removed the glass and adjusted the cables to the clips and I removed the motor and pulled the sunroof all the way back to check that there is no damage on the gears of the cables, goes without saying that I keep the mechanism nicely greased, and I already followed the TSB - so far it was all fine! But the motor keeps pulling the sunroof too far back in full open auto mode! Are there any sensors I have missed? Is there an electronic control that could be damaged?

Obviously totaled :party:

If you disconnect the battery, the automode is disabled until you recallibrate it. (Manual open and hold it for 2 seconds) You could disconnect it and be careful not to hold it at full open.

There should be some bumpstop to prevent over extending I'd think. Look like there is anything missing?
 
I had mine stick open and heard the gear popping noise. I just alternated back and forth with the open and close button and pretended it wasn't making horrible noises. After a few times it aligned itself and started working correctly. That was about a year ago and it still works fine.
 
Manual mode is enabled by holding one of the buttons down for like 20 seconds. Not sure if it stays that way after you shut off your truck?

But this would require you to slide the glass all the way back, probably making it stuck again.
 
I had this same thing happen to me last night. (Late) From what I've found on the forum, there is no one fix, everyone has fixed it in their own way.

I've tried rocking the button back and forth, no luck.
I've disconnected the battery, no luck

The glass is all the way back, but if I push the button to close/tilt the roof nothing happens. When I push the button to open, it makes the horrible clicking noise.

Any suggestions, other than $2K at the dealer?

Good news! After a good nights sleep and shaking off the cobwebs, I was able to get this fixed this morning.

I had seen this method last night when researching, but it didn't work last night. I was pretty impatient as I had been out and had a few and just wanted to go inside to bed.

So, by pressing and holding the tilt button for 15-20 seconds it finally began to move. It didn't close all the way at first, only about a quarter of the way. So, I held the tilt button some more, again another quarter of the way. Finally, it was almost closed, but then it stopped with about 2 inches to spare and wouldn't budge. So, I backed it up to the halfway point and held tilt again. Once it started to move, I pushed on the sunroof and helped it along and into position.
