Sunroof Visor Installed

Well based on a very good experience on my old Trooper I decided to add a sunroof wind deflector to my T4R. I chose the AVS 77004 universal stick-on one; the same (different size) as I used on the Trooper. Cost was about $41.xx including tax from Advanced Auto Parts.

Install was easy and straight forward. I have two suggestions for install: 1) Don’t rely on the forward stanchions of the roof rack as a reference. The loose fitting caps aren’t lined up precisely. Use the sunroof hole. 2) Score the protective film on the sticky-tape in the middle. As shown in the pic below I was able to start in the middle and work my way towards the outer edges.

The end result is a significantly quieter cabin with the sunroof open. The air is quieter and less turbulent. I have been up to the high 70mph range and enjoy the roof open even at those speeds. At similar speed with the roof closed I don’t notice any extra wind noise or any other negatives to having the visor installed.

Thanks, did it a couple of days ago and I can't believe how much more time I spend with the roof open now:D

Thought I'd throw out an update. I still like the mod. The ends started to lift a bit due to the crown on the roof. What I did that seems to have worked well is take some double-sided trim tape and "stack-it" at the ends. This allows the visor to stay flatter rather than conform to the crown of the roof.

I have "doctored" my first pic to help clarify...

anyone have a 3rd gen application?

I checked out that Auto Ventshade part number mentioned but it seems to me that would be way too wide for a 3rd gen sunroof.

Has anyone done this for a 3rd gen? I get 35.5 inches total width on my 99's sunroof so looking for a deflector of about 36.5.

Ron, You do want the 36.5" visor.
My wife got me the 35.5" for Christmas and it went back to Advance. Re-ordered the 36.5" (AVS 77003) and it fits fine.
I'm currently experiencing the visor lifting a little on the corners as was CJ3Flyr. Wish I would have seen this thread prior to me stickin it on there and doubled up on the tape.

I don't remember the measurements but this is the AVS visor I have and it fits quite well and it's been on there for over 4 years and on there as good as the day I out it there....literally. A very clean surface and warmer air temp (above 65f) is recommended for a good adhesion and if I had to tear mine off by hand it would take a bit of muscle so it's not going anywhere.
It has minimal flex and is thicker than I thought it would be so it is very solid piece.
