Sunroof Visors, yea or nay?

I dont have a visor now, but opening the rear window helps in my rig too with turbulance, very noticeably.

Hmmm tough question.
I like how they look. My Wife's 97 came with one.
My 96 ( sold ) did not have one.
Driving both vehicles, sun roofs open or shut, did not make a difference in wind noise with or without.
The only thing it does do is being able to open the sunroof a bit while driving in the rain on the interstate. If you stop, the rain water will come rushing in.
In both instances, opening rear windows a crack helps a bunch with noise.
Basicly, only get one for visual appeal if you like how they look.

Mine came with one. If mine didn't though I don't think I would be rushing to put one on.

Sorry but I don't buy that. At most I believe they're to manage airflow over and into the vehicle and maybe for aesthetetics as well, but no way they're for preventing a moonroof from breaking due to debris.

Yes theres more to it but they infact help. There was a thread years ago on Tundrasolutions about this and how a few double cabs had their sun roofs rain in the cab. (shattered)
Happened to a close friend of mine as well with his DC. He has since put 1 up there and was lucky warranty covered the shatter sunroof. that was 3 years ago.
Would I personally put one up? No, but when you select vent on the sunroof it pops up a tad bit so it acts just like the deflector. Also doesn't the sunroof retract into the roof? If so the deflector would be useless for air flow and would help create more drag on the vehicle. Correct me if I'm wrong as I don't have one on my runner.
But very well may just be for looks so people can say hey that has a sun roof lol.
No worse then the Versa that came into work last week with a sunroof deflector and Versa's don't even come with a sunroof option.So Gay

i thought they were only made for a windbreak to quieten the sound of the air rushing down and into the cab........the debris part of it is only an small added bonus and was never really factored into the design, some people may use them for this, but realistically your not covering the whole thing with the visor, as saying the angle at which it's sits and the air current running over it will only protect the 1st half of the sunroof and i can see possibly a chance of worse damage caused the negative pressure just behind the sunroof visor causing things to get spiraled and slammed in the rear portion of the sunroof, (possibly).

The 4runner is already the shape of a brick and any drag that would be created by a sunroof visor wouldn't be noticeable til you were well over 100mph,maybe 150mph.
I like mine and you can crack the sunroof open when it's raining whether around town or on the highway. I admit tho' if it looked silly IMO I wouldn't have one.

I have had them on other vehicles and didn't notice any additional noise or drag. As of now I do not have one on my Runnner as of yet but I may get one if I decide to get the in channel window guards.

lol when I was mentioning drag I wasn't meaning it'll be a noticeable difference on the truck. I was answering a statement above about it managing the airflow over the vehicle.
Didn't want people to get the idea that he meant it was better for the vehicle/performance for the sake of confusion because someone somewhere will get it all confused.

are you sure? lol, just kidding i knew what you meant, i never thought for a second you or anyone in here was trying to say that the sunroof visor acts like a wing or spoiler on the truck, lol that would be kind of silly lol.
i was talking about the micro aerodynamics if you will of just the visor and sunroof it's self and nothing involving the truck it's self

if you want to offset the massive drag created by the sunroof visor you can always add a
nuespeed sticker or a tornado, with those 2 things you gain about 550whp and that should equal out to about the amount of drag the sunroof visor creates. (more sarcasm)

Didn't want lig or 99 to think we were talking about performance/drag etc.
But I did install a leaf blower under the hood routed to the intake give me an added 9hp till about 2300rpm and then becomes a restriction.. Still trying to figure out a way to get it to not cause so much restriction in the intake after it passes a certian RPM.. Guess I could rig up a hobs switch

I always like to have fresh air in the car no matter the weather. With a visor I can open the sunroof a bit in the rain. There is one that has dual flaps on it to direct the wind where you want individually for the driver and passenger. I actually ordered one, but the first came broken :wow: snapped in half by UPS. The replacement is in route. I'll let you know if it sounds any different than normal ones
