Sunroof wind deflector

Has anyone installed one of these on a 03/04? I dont mean the one that automatically pops up with the window but the smoked plastic piece Toyota sells for it? I'm wondering how it attaches to the roof. One site said it didnt require drilling but how does that thing stay up there?

I don't have one, but I've installed quite a few of them. There will be a screw down bracket on each side of the deflector. This screw runs through the top of the deflector, down past the roof line, and then a hooked bracket hooks into the metal lip of the roof just inside of the front of the sunroof opening, then a nut goes at the bottom of the screw to hold everything on. It's hard to explain to someone, but very easy to install. Takes about five minutes total. Trust me, it's no drill.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Grant. I understand what you are saying perfectly. Hopefully someone else has one installed so I can see what it looks like. Obviously its for looks only but it might be nice. Also does the paint get rubbed off underneath the rubber strip on the deflector?

I installed one, liked how it looked but it caused some noise at 30 mph. Was annoying for me since I drive through neighborhoods a lot at that speed. So I removed it and it's sitting in the garage (let me know if you want a lightly used one).

Installation is a snap -- open the sunroof, position the deflector, and two screws that hold brackets in place.

Unfortunately, no pics to show you. Lots of Sequoias have them, so they give you a similar look.

Thanks John. I may take you up on that offer assuming its not scratched or anything. I need to find some pictures first.

How does the paint underneath hold up?

I have one on my 03... primarily got it to block the sun's glare, more than for the wind deflection. Don't know if you realized that the factory air deflector (at the front the the sunroof when opened) is speed sensitive and you can see/hear it raise/lower depending on how fast you're moving. This was more apparent once I installed the plastic deflector due to the reduced buffeting.

No I hadn't realized that. At below or near freezing temps I havent had much chance to use the window the past two days. :)
