Super Stiff Throttle

I recently purchased a 1997 SR5 2WD and love it but the throttle is so stiff. I removed the slack from the cables and also shot WD40. It helped a little but my neighbor a few doors down has a 2000 SR5 2WD and the throttle feels much easier than mine. It is night and day difference. I read in another post on this website that someone thought it was the spring that's is different than than the 1997's and older. If this is true. Is a 2000 model spring compatible with a 1997 or do you think it would make a difference if I just purchased a new throttle cable and housing? I love the 3rd generation except for the 1997 version of the gas pedal/spring.

A new throttle cable would definitely fix it because the problem is a lack of lubrication between the cable and the housing. You probably don't NEED to replace it though. My 97 was the same way, I don't even know how the PO drove that thing. I unhooked the throttle cable and held it up in the air vertically so I knew the lube got all the way down into the housing. I think I also did it a couple times, but it's all good now. I would also recommend something like a white lithium grease over WD40.
