Im about to get my engine back from the machine shop this week and should have my supercharger back from High Speed Labs as well so before it all goes back in I'm gonna put a clutch in and I'm looking at options for performance clutches. What do you guys think? URD has some that are way nice and way pricey. LC has some for about $350. Im only looking at maybe 260-270 rear wheel horse. What do you guys think?

I personally have no idea Rockdawg, sorry, but I had to highlight this part of your post just in case anybody missed it.

LOL Ok 260-270 is a little hopeful. It was really late and i had just read that the URD clutch is good to 450 RWHP. WOW. Realistically I think I should be about 240-250 So I don't want to go over kill because this is still my daily driver and I don't want a clutch that is grabby but I also want really good clamping power. And yes even before the rebuild this thing would literally smoke the 35's.

yeah i dont think there is any way you are getting that kinda power sorry... look at a.wilson013's rig, he is only at like 219hp and 249 ft lb... you will need to do some serious up grades to get in to the 250 range.

but if you want a good clutch that wont let you down and can take abuse and sustained heavy loads and not become a weak link then get a centerforce dual force/friction clutch. its all i run in my trucks(my t4r is an auto so no 3rd pedal for it) but yeah both of my 85 4x4 pickups have them and i abuse the **** outta them, hauling a yard and a half of wet 3/4 minus towing a comp ski boat 3000lb car trailer with full size car ect... wheeling it hard and it has never once over heated to slipped on me. my cousin also has one in his 95 super coupe with a 03 mustang cobra motor in it -the 4.6l supercharged(kenny bell upgraged) and its holding up fine with 550+rwhp the centerforce is a totally streetable clutch too, as far as pedal feel its no different than a stock clutch, and its not grabby like a race clutch by anymeans, but the faster the motor spins the harder it holds. to me its the only option, and i will gladly pay the little bit extra for one.

Centerforce is always a good choice and I hadn't thought of them. I was honestly getting the power numbers from a build very similar to mine over on custom tacos. Either way the supercharger makes this runner way fun to drive and I am totally loving it. :D

i have this sitting in my garage.

I will post up once it has been installed but that probably won't happen for a couple weeks

wow really!? ok i stand corrected then maybe the 250 range is attainable with pump gas, i was under the impression that some serious mods had to happen to get over 240... good to know maybe i will want to look into a SC after next deployment...

I have always loved marlins stuff in fact that very kit was the first thing I did to my 99 when I got it. Worked great but didn't know if 33% was enough extra for the supercharger. Thanks. By the way what fuel mods are you running?

Im running URD 6th injector kit with the fuel calibration/maf conditioner. Now that it's dialed in I'm ok with it. Having said that and knowing others experiences, I would use URD 7th injector kit, however if you're EGR equipped you have no choice.
At times off roading the superchargered power will challenge the load on the clutch if we don't shift to 4lo before its needed. Perhaps thats the case with the beefier clutches under simlar load/hold conditions. MC reputaion and price sold me on giving them a try for the flywheel and clutch for our application.

Thanks for the info. my 7th injector setup from URD should be arriving by Tuesday so I think I should be good to go there no egr for me :D. I am truely looking forward to driving this runner with a totally fresh motor and fully remanufactured supercharger including impeller re-coating. It was screaming fast before with 186k on the motor and the Supercharger. I think I have settled on an eClutchmaster stage 2 kit. 2000lbs pressure plate and a ceramics composite friction disk. They claim that it is not grabby and is great for towing and offroading. And for under 200.00 its worth a try. Are you up in phx I remember that you picked up your runner off of phx craigslist. Im in tucson and once i have my runner back together I would love to make one of the AZ meet ups and see your runner in person.

Happy fathers day to you too:D

Ok so I pulled the trigger today. I called clutchmaster.com and talked to them about what I was looking to achieve and they put together a great kit for me. Ended up with a stage II pressure plate rated at 2000lbs and a full circle stage I ceramic friction disk, throwout bearing and alignment tool. Shipped to my door for $200. Should have great clamping power and still smooth operation. Thanks for all your thoughts guys. I will let you know how everything works and the quality of the components.

three days to my door pretty good:) only problem is that as a custom kit they sent the wrong friction disk but a quick call and trip to the post office It was on its way back to eClutchmaster.com. they are going to replace it with the right one and pay shipping both ways. I'm really glad that I noticed this now and not when it was going into the truck. It was a mistake but it is being made right so we will see what kind of clutch kit it will be looks quality so far.

Sure thing RD84, the 4Runner was a good find with a real nice build foundation for sure. You will enjoy the URD 7th injector kit it's easier to tune then the pia 6th injector kit. We have gone through the entire truck tweaking, dailing in and modding to make it our own. We are about to install a Devils Own methenol injection kit for those times when the runner is in PHX like today at 112 degrees. Then on to build a rear bumper.

I know there are a couple 4Runner and taco members hovering around, a meet and greet would be cool. I keep the 4Runner mostly at our place up in northern Az, should you find yourself in around Prescott, hollar @ ya boy. LOL

Having real time comparisons reviews on our clutch kits should help those down the road. I know I'm interest in your set up. Good luck with the install.

Bump for more info and personal experiences....

clutch is starting to slip and need to find a replacement....

Thanks!!

Bump

Anyone with a supercharger running the stock oem clutch? Or is aftermarket really the only way to go for clutch longevity?

Leaning towards eclutchmatsters like rockdawg did.

They are suggesting a 2300lb. pressure plate. Is this ridiculous? Will this have any negative effects on master or slave cylinders in the hydraulic system??
