Supercharged V8 4Runner article...

7.6 seconds 0-60, the 03-04 V8 was suppost to be between 7.2 & 7.6 stock, then the 05 VVTi V8 model is .2 seconds faster then the 03-04 model
Did they run it with the SC or stock, the price they gave was 48k for a TRD SC model, who and where do they sell that.
Also the Cayenne is not that slow the S model is I think mid 6 seconds, I think 4wheeler has done to many trail rigs and suddenly an 8 second supercharged 4Runner seems fast

Really bad News for VVT-i...
I called Toyota TRD and asked about a supercharger for the VVT-i V8.
The answer I got was what I expected...
Since the current (2005) VVT-i V8 engine will have a very short production lifespan (approx 2-3 years) there very well might NEVER be a TRD S/C produced for it.
It might take 6 months to a full year to design, product, and stock a new S/C for it. This might only leave approximately 1 year of actual sales.
Far too short to justify the cost of development and production.
I am hoping someone else will modify or create a S/C that will fit this engine.

That's :bs: TRD has had years to fix the problems with the non-VVT-i V8 supercharger and they still can't get it right. What they told you is just an excuse. Toyota must be getting ready to give them the ax. They haven't introduced any new products in a long time; they can't even get their old shit fixed.

If the vvt-i V8 isn't going to be around much longer as someone indicated earlier, I'm thinking that Toy may be developing a new larger displacement V8. If so, I'm hoping that it's gonna be at least a 5.4 liter or so and that it's gonna go after the 5.6 Endurance V8 that Nissan has. Not that there's anything wrong with the current vvt-i V8, nor does it lack the punch, but more hp/tq is always good! If Toy does come out w/a new gen V8, I'll be in line, perhaps to add a new GX to my 4R.

A Nissan salesman told me that Nissan SUV's in each class were better than Toyota because they are faster and bigger. I think this guy should talk to Toyota and let them know what's happening in the SUV industry. Could it be that Toyota did not know that faster is best, right along with bigger is best? We could tell Toyota this and have them call TRD and then have TRD finish something, for once in a long time, instead of just hawking rebadged 'stuff'. Or better yet, Toyota should just do a supercharger themselves. MkI MR-2 ran just fine with a supercharger (not a turbo). I owned one for 14 years and it live d a hard life and never had a problem. I'll bet they can build a great package for any vehicle running a V8.

Toyota is LIGHT YEARS ahead of Nissan in many regards. Nissan does have large engines in some of their SUV's but that's to compensate for the way they fall apart faster than Toyotas (or many others it seems...
).A Pathfinder is far inferior to a 4Runner IMHO. In fact, it was my displeasure from an extended Pathfinder test drive that brought me back to Toyota and the 4Runner
.From what the TRD person said, there will be a larger diaplacement VVT-i engine coming in a year or two (along with a minor redesign/refresh on the 4Runner. This should coincide with the redesign of the Sequoia and Land Cruiser.
If Toyota wants to make a splash,
then a new bigger engine in the 5.9 liter class would be something to consider. Each of the Big 3 will make similar engines but will not make the same size engine so that each can brag that they have the best/most powerful engine in their class: GM used to make the 5.7, Ford had their 5.8, Dodge had the 5.9. GM don't make the 5.7 anymore, going to the 5.3 so Dodge got the go ahead to call theirs the Hemi 5.7, etc.
Nissan calls theirs the 5.6 Endurance. That means Toyota has to find an "unoccupied" size.....alreayd taken is the 5.6, .7, .8, .9, and the 6.0. Calling it the 5.5 does not make much sense since you need to make a good size jump away from the 4.7.....go to the 6.1?
Go to the 5.9 makes some sense since Dodge ceased using the 5.9 gas--since going to the 5.7 Hemi, but still has the 5.9 Cummins diesel....
That's it! 5.9 liters. 350 horses. 450 pounds of torque. Great engien for the big brute Landcruiser, enough for Toy to make a real 1/2 truck in their new plant, or going ot a larger Tundra with a real truck engine.....
But Toyota has been and is known for being conservative.....how else to explain the largest sub 5 lliter engine compared to BMW, Range Rover, and Mercedes and the lowest horsepower?
It would be nice, and if it comes in the next 5-6 years, that would be just the time I can trade in for a new updated and redesinged and up-powered Landcruiser......bu I wouldn't hold my breath....
